Dell Optiplex 390's hang after Fog menu (Whats the final answer on this?)
-
So I have Unbuntu 10.0.4 , Fog 1.2.0 and Dell Optiplex 390 machines. They all hang on boot after the FOG menu tries to proceed to boot the HDD. Blinking cursor. I’ve seen it in the forums mentioned before, but what is the final answer on this?
I tried changing the tftp chainloader per these instructions :
https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki//index.php/Boot_looping_and_Chainloadingbut it didn’t solve it.
Is there a working solution I’m missing in the forums here?
Thanks in advance… -
Do you have this area in 1.2.0 ?
FOG Configuration -> iPXE Boot Menu -> Exit to Hard Drive TypeIf so, play around with that setting. Not every type is supported by every machine. The default is normally Sanboot style.

390 works fine up and down with config :
SVN 3563 - Exit mode : Sanboot style

Okay… I think that may have fixed it for some - not all. I’ll respond when I’m sure if its gone or not.
Thank you

I have also had this issue with some Dell computers, my fix was to update bios. If my bios is upto date I have not had any other issues. I am not saying that this is the case but we use a multitude of device type and anytime I see this issue, I update the bios and it seems to resolve the issue.

Actually, that was a good recommendation, when I changed it in the FOG admin/config http interface. Helped for some for sure! Thx
