FOG server resolving properly your Windows hosts .
-
Hi .
There is a little tip (for newbies) to make your server resolving your windows hosts (netbios names) .
If in any case your DNS doesn’t work properly .
You should install : winbind libnss-winbind (if available)You have to edit your /etc/nsswitch.conf and add wins :
hosts: files wins mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] mdns4 dns
This is hepfull to know wich host is up or not .

It’s for a config with dns service on the linux server with fog, not for config with dns on a separated windows server ?

I haven’t tried this myself but as far as I understand things this is meant to be configured on your FOG linux server.
@Bobby Maybe you can tell us in which scenario this was helpful for you. Thanks!

It was not configured like that unfortunately i’d have to do it myself .
It was useful in my A.D Domain to resolve properly hosts by the GNU/Linux server (Ubuntu 14.04) where “FOG STACK” was installed .Regards .

@MDSI : Yes . Windows server DNS sucks in my A.D and i ve no rights to configure it at all .

Story of our lives… “Superior takes DNS administration away” and then later on… “Superior doesn’t administer DNS properly or at all.”
