Newbie User and first time install.

• Hi

Firstly i am new user of Fog and i have been handed the admin of the fog setup by management as the old admin is leaving. I am currently playing around with this version 1.2 build in a VM. The old server is working fine.

I have installed on debian and i have the fog installed and registering with another vm machine. i am currently coping in a test image try to importing from the old to the new server.

A couple of questions. I have looked at the wiki but its seems to be out of date with changes done in v1.2.0.

1. Anyway to change the background image?
2. Currently in my test install, the Capone is at the bottom of the menu anyway of moving ti tot he top?
• copy over images
1. I am correct in saying if i want to import images from the old server, i dont want to try updating the old server i prefer to build a brand new one.

1. Setup images in new fog
2. copy images from one server to another.
3. chmond permissons on the folders.

i think thats it for now.

enable fog configuration>fog settings>general settings>FOG_FORMAT_FLAG_IN_GUI
all new images created are made using partclone, deploying partimage images is included only for legacy support.
if an image is set to partimage and reuploaded, it will be converted to partclone

1. background image location is–> /var/www/fog/service/ipxe/bg.png Just keep the pixel size and the name same. FYI you will need to replace the file each and every time you update.
2. Does really matter were it is located on the Fog Boot Menu?
3. The steps to upgrade are very similar to what you want to do. You will need to copy the /images dir to the new server in location /images then you will need to create the image with the EXACT name of the dir’s in the /images dir. IF you were using 0.32 then you will need to change the image option to partImage from partClone. BUT if you were using 0.33b+ or 1.x.x then you keep the timage option to partClone. Yes then you may need to change the permissions to 777 on those dirs.

If I stated anything wrong here please correct me.
Thanks for the info.

I have copied in an image but i dont see the option to change to partimage. Ill probably change them all to partclone as i only got about 10 images anyway but reuploading the images to the new server. whats the advantages of partclone over partimage.
