Clients can't find new fog server, TFTP? Fog 1.1.2
-
Good morning!
I have a working fog .32 server that I have been using for a few years. I have a windows domain with dhcp that I have configured to use the fog server as the boot server.
I recently added a fog 1.1.2 server to check out the new features. I gave the new server a new IP and changed my dhcp scope option to reflect the new IP (to test the new server).
However when I boot clients with the NIC first they do not find the server. I’m sure I’m missing something simple, here is how the dhcp scope looks (10.10.1.251 is the new fog 1.1.2 server):
Any ideas?
When I boot the clients say: something along the lines of TFTP: File not found

Why do people insist on not reading the inline documentation?
Change 67 to undionly.kpxe

your boot file name is wrong
we don’t use pxelinux.0 any more, we use undionly.kpxe -
Thank you, I did not see it in documentation at first glance. I love easy fixes!

One more quick question not related to the thread title.
Is there an easy way to export my old fog groups/hosts/images/etc to the new fog server?
I see the new fog has it built in!

We should change the title to Upgrade_to_1.x.x but it has all the vital information you will need.

Well, for me at least, I have so much going on i dont have time to look thru pages of small-font text, and RARELY has any documentation had an impact on my upgrades anyway: so I dont have the time for it.
MAJOR changes like the dumping of pxe boot should be a highlight: BIG FONT, not hidden in the middle of non-critical reading material.
I had to search these forums to find the new change.
What made it harder was i never knew there WAS a change! I thought my server had pooped itself. That said, i find it awesome that the Fog Devs even produce doco! Most devs do not, so i compliment Fog!

While I understand there’s lots and lots of documentation, the specific documentation is in the text that’s printed during the install process itself. There is no simple way to “highlight” the text to make it stand out. It’s a part of the script in the terminal or console you’re performing the install with.
