I have rebuilt my Fog 1.0.1 server 4 times. At first everything works perfect but then the next time I use it TFTP fails to start.
It doesn’t matter if I stop it and start it manually. It doesn’t matter if I run the restart command. It just doesn’t work. I gave Fog the benefit of the doubt. When it works is great and fast but is a complete waste of time to rebuild and upload my gold images again. I don’t understand how this old known issue and still hasn’t been resolved. I wish I had the programing skills to fix it my self but I don’t. Unfortunately today I checked Fog ones again to see if by any chance there were any updates but sadly there isn’t any. Is unfortunate that only because of the TFTP stopping and refusing to restart for no reason I am force to move on to another solution.
By the way I was using Ubuntu 14.04 x64

You’ve posted a total of 4 times. One of them stating the issue “magically” went away.
You didn’t try any other OS’s and there are known issues with Ubuntu 14.04. I don’t code OS’s.
We need more information to help, and according to the post that you waited a total of one day to post like somebody failed you directly, this issue was fixed.
Then you come in here and post this thread!
Like somebody OWES you something.
We’re more than willing to try and help, but you must be willing to be patient.
If you should decide to go to a new solution, so be it, but chances are unlikely you’ll have any better support if you just expect everybody to do for YOU!

Add to that, by the way, as Jaymes stated in the previous post to you, Ubuntu 12.04 was the only known OS with the TFTP issue. This was an UBUNTU bug, NOT something FOG did. If you’re still seeing this exact issue then feel free to report the bug to Ubuntu. Maybe it’s something they’re already aware. I DID NOT CREATE UBUNTU AND CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH. EVEN IF I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO TO FIX THIS ISSUE, IT WOULD NOT HOLD DURING ANY SYSTEM UPDATES.

Yeah, the issue went magically away once. Then came back. Thinking that is was something I did wrong I rebuilt several times but concluded that is not something I am doing wrong.
My definition of “the issue was fixed” means that is fix. It still happens so is not fix.
I’ll try with Fedora since you didn’t fix the issue from happening on Ubuntu.
I understand you are doing this for free and thank you for it but, don’t need to be mad when someone is disappointed when your product don’t meet expectations. Believe me when I say I wanted it to work… badly.
Feel free to bark at me some more.

There are a MOUND of posts already about 14.04. Did you use the search feature? You would see others are reporting this issue. and whether you like it or not, this isn’t an issue of FOG, it’s an issue of Ubuntu, so If you want the issue fixed, go post on the ubuntu boards.
Ubuntu broke the service in 12.04, but we still overcame the issue with start up scripts and restart scripts for the service.
This is where I get crass.
Congratulations on your 4 installs of FOG. Did you think to try another OS? If you used that search feature I spoke of you would see a number of the developers WARNING users not to use 14.04, yet you STILL used it against our recommendations so I don’t know WHY you expect us to drop what we are doing and fix YOUR issues.
If the devs even began to count the number of times we installed fog, we would run out of tally marks. Plain and simple. Any system you set up will have a learning curve and will take time to learn, so USE AN OPERATING SYSTEM WE RECOMMEND!!!
I am terribly sorry you are experiencing issues, all of us that use this forum have day time jobs, and we do FOG out of the kindness in our hearts, but posts like this make us want to stop helping all together.
If you’d like to be productive, take my recommendation. Use Ubuntu 13.04 or 13.10 and install your fog server, be prepared to install and set it up multiple times, and ALWAYS image in a virtual environment so you can make back ups and not ruin your Golden Image.

Then what OS do you recommend? According to the Wiki it recommends Ubuntu and Fedora. Can’t blame me then for trying hard to get it to work properly on Ubuntu.

Understood, but a simple scan of the forums would have shown you all the people with issues using Ubuntu 14.04. Where on that WIKI does it Specify the use of 14.04?
I’d recommend CentOS, my personal favorite, but if you want something that works with the Ubuntu style, I hear Debian 7.5 is working great.

In his defense, the 14.04 Operating system is listed in the installation list and there is also a page someone created with the steps for installation, I am not sure who created the page but I have added a LARGE warning at the top.

I don’t know what you were or weren’t doing, and you didn’t bother posting any information after you stated the problem magically went away.

It is NOT my fault that UBUNTU is having problems, possibly again, with TFTP Server. If your tftpd-hpa service is failing, that’s either tftpd-hpa for debian/ubuntu, or specific to Ubuntu.

I am doing this for free, and have no problems doing so. I’m not mad that you’re disappointed in a product. What Expectations do you think aren’t being met? You wanted it to work, badly. So you post twice saying there’s this weird issue that others don’t appear to be experiencing. Even others who are using Ubuntu 14.04. Jaymes replies to you, and you say Thanks for the response, like it was OWED to you. Then you say, within that post, and say that things were working. Then you post this thread. Do you understand why I might have some “attitude”? Probably not.

Try debian, I’ve had good luck with it all the way during the beta of 0.33 (having a problem of my own with 1.0.1 at the moment)
Tom works very hard and has put a lot of time into this project.
I suggest we all stop moaning and try to be constructive so the problems can be solved where they exist.

Anyways. What’s the big deal of me only posting 4 times? It doesn’t mean I didn’t research the forums for answers. I did in fact. But why should I bother go further when the solutions previously posted for the issue no longer work. Fog is not hard at all to setup in a isolated network environment but if is still not stable then why even bother. Ubuntu is a mainstream OS with an unbelievable large community… with that said my thoughts were that if it doesn’t work well on Ubuntu it will not work well installed on anything else so I didn’t bother. I am now testing on Fedora and I hope I am wrong for making such assumptions.

Just FYI Fedora TFTP hangs as well. I don’t understand what gives. I’ll continue to test with other distros and update.

The machine I am trying to register/image gets an IP but then TFTP looks like:

it literally says “tftp…” ?
how directly is this client connected to the server? what network equipment is in between? do you get a file when you run the command
[CODE]tftp x.x.x.x get undionly.kpxe[/CODE] from a windows computer, where the x’s are the IP of the server. you may need to install the tftp client, as it is not installed by default in windows 7 and higher. -
