Understood, but a simple scan of the forums would have shown you all the people with issues using Ubuntu 14.04. Where on that WIKI does it Specify the use of 14.04?

I’d recommend CentOS, my personal favorite, but if you want something that works with the Ubuntu style, I hear Debian 7.5 is working great.
In his defense, the 14.04 Operating system is listed in the installation list and there is also a page someone created with the steps for installation, I am not sure who created the page but I have added a LARGE warning at the top.

WARNING TO USERS: My comments are written completely devoid of emotion, do not mistake my concise to the point manner as a personal insult or attack.
Not sure why are you so defensive… so typical to find such attitude in every forum and this one is no different.
I’m defensive because I’ve worked VERY hard, and you’ve made (before this post) A TOTAL of 4 posts, one stating that your issues MAGICALLY went away. Following from there you post this thread like we FAILED YOU in some way. The Attitude stems from the fact that you had 4 posts. Total, that’s it 4. Your 3rd post saying the issue “magically” went away. Your forth?
I have rebuilt my Fog 1.0.1 server 4 times. At first everything works perfect but then the next time I use it TFTP fails to start.

It doesn’t matter if I stop it and start it manually. It doesn’t matter if I run the restart command. It just doesn’t work. I gave Fog the benefit of the doubt. When it works is great and fast but is a complete waste of time to rebuild and upload my gold images again. I don’t understand how this old known issue and still hasn’t been resolved. I wish I had the programing skills to fix it my self but I don’t. Unfortunately today I checked Fog ones again to see if by any chance there were any updates but sadly there isn’t any. Is unfortunate that only because of the TFTP stopping and refusing to restart for no reason I am force to move on to another solution. 😞

By the way I was using Ubuntu 14.04 x64

Anyways…

Yeah, the issue went magically away once. Then came back. Thinking that is was something I did wrong I rebuilt several times but concluded that is not something I am doing wrong.
What makes you think it WAS NOT something you were doing wrong? I don’t know what you were or weren’t doing, and you didn’t bother posting any information after you stated the problem magically went away.
My definition of “the issue was fixed” means that is fix. It still happens so is not fix.
I commend you for having your definition of a “fix” and would agree with you. However, you didn’t POST anything back saying you were still seeing the issue.
I’ll try with Fedora since you didn’t fix the issue from happening on Ubuntu.
I DO NOT MAINTAIN UBUNTU IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT. It is NOT my fault that UBUNTU is having problems, possibly again, with TFTP Server. If your tftpd-hpa service is failing, that’s either tftpd-hpa for debian/ubuntu, or specific to Ubuntu.
I DON’T HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER UBUNTU How can I stress it better? I DID NOT FAIL TO FIX THE ISSUE FROM HAPPENING ON UBUNTU. I DON’T DEAL WITH UBUNTU SOFTWARES Maybe that will stress it enough.
I understand you are doing this for free and thank you for it but, don’t need to be mad when someone is disappointed when your product don’t meet expectations. Believe me when I say I wanted it to work… badly.

Feel free to bark at me some more.
I am doing this for free, and have no problems doing so. I’m not mad that you’re disappointed in a product. What Expectations do you think aren’t being met? You wanted it to work, badly. So you post twice saying there’s this weird issue that others don’t appear to be experiencing. Even others who are using Ubuntu 14.04. Jaymes replies to you, and you say Thanks for the response, like it was OWED to you. Then you say, within that post, and say that things were working. Then you post this thread. Do you understand why I might have some “attitude”? Probably not.

Try debian, I’ve had good luck with it all the way during the beta of 0.33 (having a problem of my own with 1.0.1 at the moment)

Tom works very hard and has put a lot of time into this project.

I suggest we all stop moaning and try to be constructive so the problems can be solved where they exist.

Anyways. What’s the big deal of me only posting 4 times? It doesn’t mean I didn’t research the forums for answers. I did in fact. But why should I bother go further when the solutions previously posted for the issue no longer work. Fog is not hard at all to setup in a isolated network environment but if is still not stable then why even bother. Ubuntu is a mainstream OS with an unbelievable large community… with that said my thoughts were that if it doesn’t work well on Ubuntu it will not work well installed on anything else so I didn’t bother. I am now testing on Fedora and I hope I am wrong for making such assumptions.

Just FYI Fedora TFTP hangs as well. I don’t understand what gives. I’ll continue to test with other distros and update.

                      TFTP…

                        it literally says “tftp…” ?
how directly is this client connected to the server? what network equipment is in between? do you get a file when you run the command
tftp x.x.x.x get undionly.kpxe
from a windows computer, where the x’s are the IP of the server. you may need to install the tftp client, as it is not installed by default in windows 7 and higher.

tftp is a communication protocol. there are clients for tftp for every operating system. it is the protocol that pxe boot uses to download undionly.kpxe
my instructions are to verify that the tftp server is accessible and hosting the file.

There is a client to communicate with FOG from windows called the TFTP Client, if you download it and run the command we can verify that your boot file is getting to the correct location as intended.

FOG is only developed for linux operating systems. The creators devised an ingenious way to image machines using the pxe boot method which was highly sought after during the time when other similarly functioning softwares costed a large amount of cash. They used FREE software to complete the project, it since then has grown and a lot of features and additions have happened. FOG is developed for linux so it is free because it uses other free software. It can not function on windows without emulation.

Please add the tftp client in the Add and Remove Features section and run the command.
