Kernel - 3.2.4 Core
-
Is anyone else besides me having trouble installing the new kernel that was just released on Feb 6th?
Error: Download Failed: filesize = 0
I’m thinking the developers found a bug and pulled the file and not the link?
-
this did happen to me, so i went to sourceforge downloaded it, and then uploaded it to my fog server using webmin
-
Thanks for the suggestion Falko. It worked perfectly.
My steps:
- Downloaded the latest Kernel from Sourceforge
- Used WinSCP to put it onto my Ubuntu Server
- Renamed the current kernel “bzImage” to “abzImage”.
- Copied the new kernel and renamed it “bzimage”.
- Changed the owner and group to “fog”.
-
that sounds about what I did … just with sftp instead of winscp
-
I think this solution works fine. Tried and worked.
But where can I see, wich Kernel-Version I am using? -
I don’t think that there is a way … but if you changed the name of the kernel when you download it you could then switch which kernel you use under the Host Kernel: line … I think that you use /fog/kernel/<name of kernel> in that field to change which one you want to use…

Hello there,
I am getting the same error message when trying downloading the newest Kernel kernel-3-2-4-core through the Fog Web management.
But I tried finding it on Sourceforge and was not successful. Could somebody send me the link please, so I can download it.I am having problems with a laptop and its ATI Radeon graphic card, receiving vbe_init() failed with -22 error followed by snow.
I could try to modify some kernel settings, but I am to inexperienced with Linux to do so.thanks
Cheers -
Hey,
thats it: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/Kernels/Kernel-3.2.4.core/
-
hey,
thanks for the quick reply. In the meantime I found it on the jp sourceforge.net website.
here are some additional information, regarding how to change the kernel for the PXE in FOG Server
I followed squeaners instructions after i found out where I had to upload the kernel (kernel-3.2.4.core)
- download the kernel version from sourceforge (I did copy and paste the kernel version name into google)
- I used webmin and went to /tftpboot/fog/kernel
- renamed the bzImage to bzImage_backup (or what ever you prefer in this cases)
- uploaded the kernel-3.2.4 (or what version you have downloaded)
- rename the kernel-3.2.4 to bzImage (IMPORTANT in fog 0.32 it has to be name bzImage and not bzimage)
But I am still having the vbe_init () failed with -22 on the laptop. in my case is actually the /sbin/v86d missing, but that will be documented in a different fog forum thread.
Cheers

I am having the same issue with the 3.2.4 kernel. I downloaded from sourceforge and have it in /var/www/fog/service/ipxe (Fog 1.1.2) but it has a different icon from the bzImage (not very familiar with the linux file structure but getting there). Any thoughts?

Is because it’s a 32-bit kernel you need to use one of the more recent versions and you can check on the unofficial you need a 64-bit kernel
-
Thanks Tom! Do you happen to know what the “Default bzImage” was for 1.1.2? Many of the known working devices say Default bzImage (including the machine I am currently working on) and ours was changed to troubleshoot something else.
-
If you go to the source forge webpage for fog and look under the code then the tags directory you’ll see one.one.to go to packages web service ipxe
-
helping out, since tom’s on voice translation right now. http://sourceforge.net/p/freeghost/code/HEAD/tree/tags/1.1.2/packages/web/service/ipxe/ is the location he’s talking about
-
Thanks Junkhacker! I actually got there with his direction.

you asked for this info again here http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/hardware-currently-working-with-fog-v1-x-x.10685/#post-33291
what is the exact nature of your problem -
I deleted that question (a few minutes ago) because it was answered here. I was able to replace both the bzimage and bzimage32 and get most of our machines working on that. I am having an issue with the HP DC 7800, assuming it’s a kernel issue. It errors out after I see this screen but the error is so quick I can’t read it.

this does not look like a kernel issue. try tapping “pause/break” while this is happening, to see if you can catch the error.

As an update, I have taken a video to capture the error message and tom has been answering on http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/hardware-currently-working-with-fog-v1-x-x.10685/
