Hi
[SIZE=4]I am trying to image two identical dell optiplex 9010. I can upload successful the image but when i download the image to the other computer it does not boot.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=4]I have tried with fog 0.33b and same thing happens.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=4]I have tried with legacy support in bios and sata mode to ata again same thing happens.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=4]I am running out of ideas can anyone help me on this[/SIZE] -

Please, clarify what you mean by “does not boot”.
I’m not trying to make this difficult but what you call “does not want to boot” and what I call “does not want to boot” could mean two totally different things. Please leave us LOTS of details!
When I say “does not boot” I mean the machine won’t power on, its gets no power from the power supply.
If I have a machine that is not working properly to display the pxe menu I would say “my machine powers on, attempts to load the pxe menu and fails with error…”
If the machine acts like it wants to finish it’s task but never boots to that blue background screen where the image transfer happens, I would say “My machine boots to the pxe menu, begins its task but skips actually finding the drives and loading the image.”
And please answer the questions Junkhacker asked, your Linux version as well as your currently installed FOG version are vital to helping us find your issue.
If the computer refuses to boot, you have larger issues.
If the machine boots and attempts to load your pxe menu, we may be able to help you.
If you machine acts like it wants to image, skips over downloading the data and continues trying to load the drive, we may be able to help you.I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.
And as a further heads up, if a machine is having trouble getting to the pxe menu and loading it, we may need to try a different kernel, they contain the drivers that the machines need to use in order to register, upload, and download the images. A lot of the time if a FOG server works on a particular unit but won’t on a newer model, these are usually kernel issues, and are very easy to solve.

First attempt was with fog 0.32 on ubuntu 10.04.
Second attempt was with fog 0.33 on ubuntu 12.04
I have tried to image with partimage and partclone
I am using single partition type image
When i mean it does not boot, i mean that when it tries to load the operating system i am getting an error about partitions.
If i use the multiple partitions single disk not resizable and i have a 500G hard disk it means that it will upload 500G image or that it will not re size the partition in the destination hard disk if it is for example 1000G?Thanks and sorry for my bad english

It will be compressible, but it is indeed not resizable by fog.
You can expand it using windows tools easily enough. Even automatically.
Try the Multi partition single disk. If the HDDs are different, upload the SMALLER one, or make the partition you install to small and expand on every PC.

I say this because windows 7 and 8 add extra hidden partitions to the disks unless you set them up specifically not to. This will cover that extra partition. Choosing All disks over Single disk will not have much affect but I highly recommend using Multipartition for ANY Windows image!
When fog takes a capture of your “image” it doesn’t capture the whole drive, it only takes the parts with the data in it and compresses it to a zip file, empty space is well empty space, it can’t take up space, there’s nothing there!!! So if your complete windows setup is 20gb then fog will capture the data and compress is and save to a zip file for you.
I recommend setting up a virtual machine and building images there. I usually make a 50GB disk and start my installation from there. I only recommend this because, you can build a universal image and if you use a small hard drive, you can push the smaller image to a larger hard drive but not the other way around. This will allow you to image small hard drives and large hard drives (if in the event you need to replace one and can’t find one of the same size) because using a 500gb drive means you can ONLY install that image on a 500GB hard drive or LARGER.
There is a process during sysprep called ExtendOSPartition that will let the extra free space after the image become part of the partition so it can be used for save space, very cool!

Also not all 500GB drives are equal…
I’ve had some HDDs error out because they are probably a few bytes short of the others.
If your not sysprepping or you don’t want to do it with sysprep, look up DISKPART and it’s Extend command.
