Dell Latitude E7240 imaging problem
-
Yes, you can create a backup of the original as well just to see if it works.
-
Hi Tom,
The imaging works now tx! but…The E7240 uses a SSD of 256 GB and it looks like I’m not able to image that using FOG 0.32…
-
I’m very sorry about that! I think it’s due to the 4k Advanced Format Drives though. Not so much the fact that it’s SSD.

Thanks Tom your bzimage worked for me too.
The 7420 I was setting up did have an SSD, however it was only 120GB, and it imaged just fine. I checked and the SSD is a 4K drive, so not sure why jjacobs didn’t work. This is the disk:
Can you try my all-net kernel?
https://mastacontrola.com/fogboot/kernel/bzImage It’s based on core, has no modesetting, and should contain all possible network drivers built in.
Tom, thank you very much for the kernel.
This kernel also works for a Dell Latitude E5540 with hybrid HDD. -
Glad I could be of help.

Hi Tom,
I’m getting the same NIC error on a Dell Latitude E5440 so I tried your kernel from https://mastacontrola.com/fogboot/kernel/bzImage but unfortunately it just causes a kernel panic before booting fully. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Eoin -
Replace the bzImage part of the link with bzImage32, then copy that file as bzImage on your fog server.
-
It’s in 640x480 but that has worked a treat Tom, thank you very much! Is this because there is a 64bit driver in there somewhere that is incompatible? Also, how often do you release your own new kernels?
Cheers,
Eoin. -
No, it’s because in 0.33 we’ve moved to a pure 64 bit system. The bzImage file on my site is 64 bit, while your init.gz/xz file is 32 bit only.
-
So if I moved to 0.33 I could use that first bzImage?
Thanks,
Eoin. -
Yes, unless you wanted to use 32 bit stuff, in which case you would use the init_32.xz with the bzImage32.
-
Great, thanks very much for all the help - really appreciate it as I am at a customer site today and on a deadline!

Tom, thanks very much for the updated kernel. I’m a new user (about 2 months) and we are now receiving shipments of Dell E7240’s so this was very timely help. Awesome! I downloaded fog 0.33b and will be testing that soon. I’d been looking at fog for a long time and finally got approval when updating Ghost’s WinPE image for new nics became too troublesome. Great work to all involved in the project. Thanks again!

Tom,
We’re running into this same issue with some Latitude E7240 we have. I went to download your all net kernel from the link above and am getting a 403 Forbidden error. Is there a new location to download the kernel? or can someone that’s using it hook me up with a copy? Thanks for the Help!

You can download the kernel from here too
