It almost sounds like a network error with this one. The actually error message we need to see is printed seemingly random on the blue background partclone screen. This log file is actually on the target computer in the FOS Linux system. It unfortunately disappears when the target system is rebooted.

We are running this off a Layer 3 switch. Switch takes care of dhcp and ipxe boot file. And are running it in a closed network, just fog server and 24 ethernet lines.

@tesparza OK so everything is on a single network switch and you are multicasting? Did you enable igmp snooping on your network switch.

I do have to say with multicasting about 90% of the problems come from infrastructure and not fog. That’s not saying there isn’t a problem with FOG, just most of the time the problem is elsewhere.

Do you recommend and Layer 3 switch or just a regular switch?

Unless you are doing routing in an L3 switch, for what you are doing (multicasting) an L2 or L3 switch will work just fine. We have seen with some of the non-enterprise switches the switch fabric is not fast enough to multicast to all of the ports at the same time. If you have an enterprise class switch made since 2008 the switch should be just fine from a performance standpoint.

Now your L3 switch, I assume it has a web ui? If so did you enable igmp snooping on that switch?

We are using a Cisco 3750 layer 3. I need to double check igmp snooping setting. I’ve never had this problem until this week. Since we are using the switch only. A setup at another school was through the router and we never had setup.

@tesparza If unicasts are fine, but multicasts are not then I would start with the igmp snooping. There may be another command that needs to be enabled for the catalyst line. I seem to remember there is but can’t remember the details at the moment.
