creating an image container for windows server 2012 r2

hi all,

im about to create an image container to capture my windows server 2012 r2 host but what O/S do i choose -

2000/XP
7
8
8.1
98
other
vista

im guessing 8?

@robertkwild If I remember correctly selecting 8 does a bit of magic with the bootloader which you might not want to be applied to your server image. But possibly I am wrong and that was vista…

Give Win10 a try and see if it works.

Definitely use non-resizable image type unless you have very good reasons to do so (deploy to smaller size disk and you can’t manually resize yourself). Just don’t play with fire on a server if you don’t have to.

Imaging Microsoft Server class systems is not the main focus of FOG, but for 2012, I would pick Win 7 or 10. I would suspect that 10 will be just fine too. The OS differences is important, its more about the disk structure.

As I said in the beginning Server class system is not he main focus of FOG. I might suspect that FOS Linux might have issues with some server class hardware. I would surely check with the hardware compatibility module in FOG to ensure that everything needed can be seen.

so for normal cloning i can use “single disk resizable”?

but for this server its “multiple partition image single disk not resizable”

If you don’t need to deploy to a smaller size disk you might consider using this image type as it’s less likely to cause an issue and image size on the server is still as small as with resizable image type.
