Welcome,
I searched resolution for my problem but without success, so I decided to describe my issues with fog and printer management.
I’m using fog 0.32 and want add printers to host. Most printers in my company are network devices.I create printer in fog according to this scenerio:

Printer model is from inf file: HP LaserJet P2015 Series PCL 6
Printer Port is device ip address.
Print INF File: indicate network share where is located inf file here is: hppcp604.inf
It looks like that:

When printer is assigned to host (WinXP) fog service creates port but does’nt add printer drivers.
Logs from log file on host:
2012-11-13 14:14 FOG::printerManager Management level = 1
2012-11-13 14:14 FOG::printerManager Adding new printers to host…
2012-11-13 14:14 FOG::printerManager 1 found on server side.
2012-11-13 14:14 FOG::printerManager Installation requested for HP LaserJet P2015 Series PCL 6
2012-11-13 14:14 FOG::printerManager Printer Installed: HP LaserJet P2015 Series PCL 6

2012-11-13 14:15 FOG::printerManager Setting Default Printer…
2012-11-13 14:15 FOG::printerManager Failed: it looks like the local printer is missing.
Fog client tray is running on host.
Any help will be appriciaded.
Regards

I have not had much luck with printer management in FOG. I use GPO to handle printer deployment.

Problem is that we don’t use AD.
Any news about resolving this issues in next version of FOG?

Printer management is an add-on feature and the next version of FOG is more of a core update release. If anyone with the proper programming experience wants to tackle the fog client printer management maintenance, it would help out a lot.

Hi,
we use printer manager, and works fine. We use fog 0.30, but i’m sure that the printer manager don’t change.
You must setup the printer port like IP_172.21.146

Fernando thanks for reply,
I think I tried this setting (IP_aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa) but it did’nt help. Tomorrow I’ll check and let you know.

Fernando,
just like I thought FOG created printer port (IP_aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa) on host but did’nt add printer drivers from specified location (here local drive c:\hpljp2015dn\hppcp604.inf). Log from FOG serviece:

Slowly I’m loosing faith in FOG printer management :(.

In next test I used HP LJ 2100 and drivers from c:\WINDOWS\inf\ntprint.inf. It’s also network printer. When printer was installed xp asked me about compatibility this drivers with xp system. I had to push it forward and drivers were installed but no printer in system. Here log:

Why are you specifying it as a local printer but then trying to set it up like an IP printer?

Chad-bisd,
according to microsoft it is “local printer” but port indicate printer ip address. It’s similiar when you create new local printer in xp, you can also create port (Standard TCP/IP port). In FOG choosing network printer I could’nt choose IP printer port just network share.

We have the same problen in Windows XP, but in Windows 7 it works great. Haven´t found what´s missing in Windows XP.
Thanks for a great software, FOG makes my life easier.

SNP,
you are correct, in Win7 adding printer from FOG works, but in my tests printer shows in control panel after system reboot only if drivers are locate on local drive.

Sorry, i´ve been testing FOG´s printer managment for about 1 year and can´t get it to work in XP, sometimes for the first time it work´s.

We have the all drivers in FOG (samba share)
http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Creating_a_Samba_Based_Printer_Store_on_FOG

(Have tested with drivers installled on local disk with same resultat port and driver install´s but no printer.)

1. In Win 7 are we using HP Universal driver for ower older HP printer and it works perfect, with or without AD membership, booth add and remove printers with or without FOG tray.

2. Today i get FOG a last try in XP (i think) and tested with HP universal printer in XP but with the same ending, printer port installs and the HP universal driver but XP don´t install any printer.

For the moment i don´t have more idea´s for any printermanager solutions in XP

For the moment in the FOG Printermanagement is my question how to make a snapin ho make a “Refresh My Printers”
is theré someone answer for my question ?

Sorry for bad english

We use the printer manager with fog 0.30 and in windows XP without problems. If your printer is a network printer and HP. Try this, please:

Printer type: local printer
Printer model: HP LaserJet III
Printer alias: your_printer_alias
Printer port: IP_xxx.yyy.zzz.www
Printer inf File: c:\windows\inf\ntprint.inf
Printer IP: xxx.yyy.zzz.www

The printer model must be the same that appears in ntprint.inf. We use LaserJet III driver as universal driver.
