Fog Menu looping with Dell venue Pro 11 5030 and other tablets like Lenovo HP
-
Hi there,
i want to clone Dell Venue Pro 11 Tablets. I am using Fog on other systems very good but with Tablets i have my Problems.
I have taken a video of this problem, but only watch don’t hear my bad englishEvery time i want to choose an option in Fog Menü it comes again the menu. Sometimes there stands chainloading, if i disable the menu for example or want to deploy an image. I can type my passwort and choose the image but then nothing happens.
It does not matter which option i am choosing… there is not the result i am waiting on.Infos about my system:
Fog 1.5 ( i think i have updated but there stands 1.4.4 in webpage )
Dell Venue Pro Docking Station with lanit also the same problem with Lenovo and HP Tablets, also with an Dell USB C Adapter to network.
Perhaps a Dell issue?
@Sebastian-Roth Perhaps i can tell you in german ?

@Hope1983 Will be looking into this on the weekend.

It looks like (from the video) that iPXE is never turning over control to FOS. It downloads both the kernel and virtual hard drive (init.xz) but then fails to launch.
I guess I would check to see if:
- Secure boot is off (you should not get this far if its on, but double check)
- Ensure that your firmware is up to date on the Dell tablet
- What iPXE file name are you sending to the tablet? What is dhcp option 67 set to, or do you have dynamic boot file names configured?

@Hope1983 Ok, so in the video we see iPXE error 0x7f048283: http://ipxe.org/err/7f048283 - iPXE fails to start the EFI binary (the linux kernel in this case). As it is working properly with other devices this seems to be a problem with this particular device.
First follow George’s post on upgrading the firmware and making sure secure boot is disabled.
It takes 10 seconds to build and shows a download window after that. Grab that file and put it in
/tftpboot
on your FOG server - rename the originalipxe.efi
to not overwrite it.Now boot up your client again an take a new video of the messages on screen you see. Please try to set your camera/smartphone on a pile of books on your table in front of the screen so we have a steady picture. We need a clear/readable picture of all the messages (and numbers!) on screen.

hi, sorry i was ill last week and have no time to check this problem again.
could it be, that this is not the right binary file? it must be uefi 32-bit version. I have moved it to /tftpboot/i386-efi/ location where it normally takes the file.
If i try to boot now, it says “Succeed to download NBP file” and then it goes to ipv6 and then boot up Windows. -
here is it my new video, sorry for the quality

thx @Sebastian-Roth for the new binary in 32-bit
