      I’m a little confused with the way the new printer snapin handles ports. It use to use X_IP_Address and it was fine. Now it must be a number. I have been setting all of my new printers to Port 0… I’m suspecting that may become an issue for machines that use more than one printer?

      My only solution so far to updating print drivers on machines is to set printers in FOG to be entirely managed by FOG. Then delete all of the printers. Let the host update. Then re-add the printers. However, if FOG could check the printer model and or printer name when the host checks in, if either of those change than update the driver. I’m sure it’s not that easy. 🙂

            I am still trying to grasp what you are up to but wanted to get this out fairly soon to let you know this is not going to work with the current fog-client version. Printers will most probably not get deleted on the hosts. Maybe try with one and see.

              @Joe-Gill Reading this over and over but I don’t really get what you mean. The web UI changed, right? It forces you to set “Printer Port” to be a real number while it used to be just a string. Do I get this?

                No problem!

                We had a district wide printer refresh. We changed brands of machines which changed the drivers and models we use. I wanted to keep my naming scheme / IP addresses all the same as what the printers were set as. So I just updated the printer INF and Config files in FOG. Than did the following…

                This has worked now on multiple machine types with the latest FOG client…

                Group Management >> Group >> Printers >>
                Set it to Only Assigned Printers
                Delete ALL printers
                Allow the Hosts to refresh…

                Set it to Fog Managed Printers
                Add back your printers.
                Allow the Hosts to refresh…

                You should be updated now with the latest print drivers.

                  Yes that is correct!

                  For example…

                  Old port setting would be X_172_1_1_140
                  New string would be ??

                  I’ve been setting all of my ports to 0. It just dawned on me that this might not work if more than one printer was installed on the host… << that’s what I’m curious of…

                        Though I don’t see the removal of the printer here (must have been before the start of this log) this portion looks different to what I experienced on my test system. Possibly “Network Printer” and “TCP/IP Port Printer” behave different. Good to know so I don’t get this wrong when trying to fix the “Network Printer” issue.

                        @Tom-Elliott May you allow string for printers again, please. I looked it up and then remembered that there is a thing called “Port Name” (different to “Port (Number)”) when we talk about printers. See here:

                        The “Port Name” is just that, a name. Windows defaults to the string IP_x.x.x.x.

                        The network port number on the other hand is derived from the field IP by the client. So x.x.x.x:1234 would be network port 1234 and IP x.x.x.x. If only an IP is specified then the fog-client defaults to network port 9100. Maybe we should make this clear in the web UI as well (hints next to the fields).

                                  Nice, so I am marking this solved (doesn’t need much testing I suppose) and take Joe’s fog-client log information over to the other thread where I work on the client printer stuff.
