    Server
    • FOG Version: 1.3.5
    • OS: Debian 8.7.1
    Client
    • Service Version: 1.3.5
    • OS: Windows 7
    Description

    Hello,

I am new on fog, I would like to know if it is possible to deploy an image directly on the network without inventorying the pc just by starting on the network card, as clonezilla Server ?

If this is not possible, can PCs be automatically inventoried without “Quick Host Registration and Inventory” ?

    Thank you

First of all Welcome to the FOG Forums.

Second, you can image a machine by pxe booting into the FOG Menu and selecting Deploy Image. No registration is required. After Deploy Image is selected you will be presented with a list of images available on your FOG server.

Not 100% sure on how what you’re expecting, but there are some options.

If you want to deploy remotely, you’ll need to register the PC somehow. Otherwise FOG will have no information to work with.

Knowing that, computers running the FOG client will automatically send their info to the server as pending registration. So if the computers are currently in use, deploying the FOG client to all of them, will take care off the heavy lifting.

If that’s not an option, you could make Quick registration the default option, boot the PCs and they’ll loop through it by themselves. (assuming default settings, meaning no special key presses or anything needed to get to FOG menu)

An alternative, if you have a list of MAC addresses, you can use those to create a host csv file that you can import to FOG.

If you’re asking about simply deploying without having to register at the PC itself, Deploy Image option works as expected.

People that are new to fog don’t see the value in registering normally - and that’s OK. But fog comes to life with registered computers - automatic host naming, automatic domain joining, automated startups, shutdowns, reboots, software & script deployments, printer management, tracking of who logs into and out of said computers, inventory reports, imaging history, and many other things. Many of FOG’s features, you cannot use without registering.

And after you try out registering & using these features, you will start to understand how unnecessarily hard you were working before.

@george1421 I tried but I have the following message: invalid login

I thought that the identifiers were fog and password but this is not the case

@seb38300 Correct it may ask you for authentication. The user ID and password will be ones that you setup in the fog gui under User Management.
