If you search the forums for “M72E”, you’ll see that this is a major problem model with FOG.

At one building in my district, there are several labs of these machines. ALL of them failed to PXE boot EXCEPT FOR ONE!

One succeeded! How is this possible? All BIOS settings are set the same, BIOS versions are the same, Different network ports have been tried… this one lone system reliably PXE boots, yet all others fail…

Any ideas are appreciated… this one’s a head scratcher.

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG!

@Wayne-Workman I am working my way through older (up to one year) forum posts to see if there are still things open we should address before the new release. So far I’ve mostly closed topics as they had got good answers. But this one is still completely open. Have you looked into it again?

Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

@Sebastian-Roth I will follow up with the building techs and see what they say.

@Wayne-Workman Things that come to my mind as we have seen weird network issues lately: crooked cables, auto-negotiation, EEE/802.3az

@Sebastian-Roth I would rule out the crooked cable theory for this particular case - only because ONE computer out of many succeeds… I doubt it’s the only one in the lab with a good cable.

I have run into this same exact issue but on a much smaller scale. I had the bios settings set right with the right boot order and everything.

What I ended up doing was change the BIOS settings anyway to remove PXE boot as an option, boot the computer up once, reboot, enter BIOS and change settings back. After that, it worked like a champ.

On your large scale issue though, it almost seems like a port issue on the switch, or perhaps an DHCP scope option not pointing to the right boot file/boot server.

                  @Wayne-Workman

We have a lot of these and they work fine for us. FOG in the cloud version 6651.

                  System Manufacturer LENOVO
                  System Product 4004H1U
                  System Version ThinkCentre M72e

I am using undionly.kpxe for my bootfile. Sounds like something with your network? Sorry I can’t help much, but I figured to let you know it works for me.

@Sebastian-Roth I’ve not heard a thing from that building’s techs about this issue. If they try to get this model working with FOG in the future, I’m sure they will Google search it and find this thread, wouldn’t that be humorous?

I’m working with one of them tomorrow, I’ll ask about it.
