Mac OS X as a FOG server
-
Today I had an hour spare time and tried installing FOG on a normal Mac OS X (10.10.4) machine. Why you might all wonder? See here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=FOG_on_a_MAC&oldid=3361
It has been reported that the FOG server will run on a MAC without any issues.
This has been in the wiki for a long time and I wanted to find out. Maybe it was fine with older versions (didn’t try) but 1.2.0 is definitely not an easy one:
- Mac OS X comes with apache and PHP but without gettext extension (I was able to use a pre-compiled binary from MAMP but this is not for beginners)
- MySQL on Mac OS X installes fine but comes with sql_mode set in a way to make schema updater fail (got around this as well but hey…)
So I got the web interface up but that’s just the beginning I reckon. What about udpcast and other stuff. Not even talking about trunk (PHP 5.6)…
So I am asking, does anyone know more about this or should we just get rid of it in the wiki? The current article talks about Mac OS X as a client mostly and I am still working on improving this part.

Removed from wiki as I don’t feel like anyone really cares about running FOG on a Mac OS X server…

And I feel free and open work should be run on a free and open operating system. Just my thoughts on the matter.
