If you like Ubuntu and you want to stick with it, try 13.10 it was fairly stable and not too much was changed. 12.04 is still a solid choice as well.

14.04 brought come changes to Ubuntu again and while I have fog working on it, it is not optimal.

I would heed BPSTravis’ advice and use 12, or 13 revision of Ubuntu.

Sorry to hear that Ubuntu is going south. 😞 I hope it doesn’t affect Mint too much. I like that for an XP replacement.

I am successfully using 12.04.4 Ubuntu. Had a TFTP issue, reset passwords everywhere and fixed that.

Got the Capone plugin installed, but it does not show up on the PXE boot menu. We had used Capone exclusively in our environment before, so it would be awesome to have that working again.

Is there a settings file in 0.32 somewhere that I have to change to get Capone to show? Everything looks good on the web GUI.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! My techs sorely miss the imaging setup!

You need to add the lines recommended by Capone to your /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default file.

To view the lines go to the plugin from the plugins page.

Choose installed plugins, then click on capone. At the bottom of the page, it should give the lines needed to get the menu option.

Perfect! Apologies, I misunderstood the Wiki.

                Thanks again for your time.

My coordinator wants to start using FOG in university labs. She would like to know what is the most recommended distro/version to use FOG, and I read here the Ubuntu 12.04 and Debian 7 options.

But another teacher thought about using Arch Linux. Do any of you have any experience with FOG and Arch? Are you able to say if it is a good combination?

Personally, I prefer the Debian derivatives, but http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/install-fog-on-arch-linux.4178/

to the best of my knowledge dfear is the only person running fog on arch, if you run into any problems there’a good chance that there won’t really be people that have had the problem before, and it that makes troubleshooting difficult

Much to my dismay, Debian now seems to have the same"feature" as Ubuntu, requiring a reboot on the TFTP service after booting the server. Overall, I still prefer Debian for a server though.

We’ve been running fog on centos since .20 and haven’t really had any issues. i prefer this since it’s pretty much the closest free redhat.
