The current stable version does not support windows 8

The new version that you can download 0.33 can (in testing)

if you do want to try the current 0.33 beta with windows 8 (and by all means do test it and provide feedback for the devs) you must use sysprep.

So Falko the beta has win 8 support?

Is there any info on upgrading your current server to v .33?

Where can you download the beta?

There is not currently an official upgrade path for 0.33 as it’s still in beta. If you want to test it out I’d suggest setting up a VM or test server as it’s really not ready for production.

Once you have a server setup (Ubuntu or whichever distro you choose), you’ll need to make sure that subversion (svn) is installed. Then just run the following command to pull down the current version of 0.33…
svn co https://freeghost.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/freeghost/trunk /opt/freeghost
and run through the installer as root…
cd /opt/freeghost/bin
./installfog.sh
If you have any feedback you’d like to provide, please use the Bugs in FOG 0.33 thread.

And what about the new way of activating Windows 8? Apparently new pc’s don’t come with a license key at the side of the case, Microsoft is pulling the OEM-key from the BIOS. How does Fog 0.33 handles this?

I have found the easiest way to deal with licensing issues in windows is to use a kms server. Also .32 will (sort of) work with windows 8 if you select vista as operating system type. I have one win 8 image we use on .32 server.

I didn’t have to use a KMS server, I just specified a dummy key in the unattend xml I believe. It was a while ago because since fog .32 doesn’t work I haven’t bothered trying anymore, but my sysprep worked fine.

Hello all
When I try to upload an image to our FOG server from a brand-new Acer W510 using FOG 0.32, the following message appears:
“Network boot IPV4: 00-60-6E-42-53-2A has been blocked by the current security policy”.
Something to do with UEFI, believe it is a new ways of booting an OS.

I have just found this link:
http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/329603-when-i-try-to-image-a-brand-new-acer-w510-using-fog-0-32-the-following-message?page=1#entry-2155182
Only hurdle is now how to configure the Fog server to support UEFI PXE boot, not quite sure how to do this, any advise/assistance will be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Chris

Windows 8 works fine for me on 0.32. I just uploaded 3 new images for my locations.

Kilpady,
I believe I saw something in the forums about UEFI support for 0.33. If not this would most likely be similar to how Mac’s Netboot. Those tutorials may help you quite a bit.

You don’t.

Driver support is nearly zero for 32bit Windows 8.
