Fedora 35 & FOG
-
Hello Community,
Fedora 35 has been flat-out failing installation tests for all branches since I’ve added it to the daily installation tests.
Knowing our limited developer resources, and to keep cost low, I suggest we cease testing Fedora as well as cease supporting Fedora - in the sense of fixing installation code to make new versions work.
Thoughts?

@Wayne-Workman Good point. Your stats show that not many people actually use Fedora. Though there is at least one and I kind of feel obliged to at least see how much work it is to fix this. If it’s easy enough we might keep it in the installer. Feel free to remove it from the installer tests though.
Installing Fedora 35 in my test environment was a bit of a hassle but I will give it a try. Will keep you posted.

There’s some Fedora 25 users out there. Maybe I set those up for the school district in 2016

Considering fedora is generally the bleeding edge version or REHL I would classify it under NOT LTS and pull it from the supported OS list.

While this is a really good point I may say that Fedora does not seem to be much extra work to support. As well looking into this got me on the hook of tossing out xinetd which we were still using for TFTP in redhat based distros up until now. There is a nice way of doing the connection handling with systemd instead of using the extra (and dated) package xinetd.
I will push the fixes tomorrow morning.
So maybe we’ll just leave this in the installer scripts for now and see when it fails next time.
From my point of view revoking a distro really means removing all the traces from the scripts and that’s some work too.

@Wayne-Workman @astrugatch Fedora 35 is now fine on working-1.6 and it will be fine on dev-branch as well as soon as PHP 8 support is done.

@sebastian-roth Would you like
dev-branch-php8
included in the daily tests? -

Thanks for asking but I don’t think it’s worth it. This is meant to be a short term branch and will be merged soon again.
