Mac Feature
-
Being able to take an image from either osx or a mac running linux would be a great advantage if it is possible.
-
OSX uses HFS+ which is not supported by Partimage, the application that does the actual imaging, so it’s not an option at this point. However, there has been some consideration of adding Partclone to FOG, which does support HFS+, but we’re not there yet.
As far as I’m aware, you can currently use Linux images on a Mac (at least I can’t think of a reason why that wouldn’t work), except for the tiny problem of Mac’s not supporting PXE, so they have no built in method of “booting into FOG”. You can use pxelinux or ipxe on a bootable disk to get the Mac’s to PXE boot, but then you’ve got to carry around a bootable disk.

after making a feature request some time ago over at PartedMagic they now have ipxe in their boot menu. very hand usb tool to have

Hi,
(yes, I’m answering a late message, but I just bumped into the issue…)Using FOG, I couldn’t do proper imaging/netbooting for MAC. So I did load ubuntu on a Live USB key, and used partclone to do the imaging work on the NFS server, and it works fine… now to integrate that in FOG (i.e. http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_get_Macintosh’s_Netboot_working_with_your_FOG_server for the netboot part, and using partclone instead of partimage…), well, gotta see
Cheers

How did you get on with this? I have my Macs able to Netboot from my FOG server but need to get a method to apply images from inside the Netboot image…
cheers

I had this working within a test environment. It would boot to our DeployStudio server and it would work like normal. We couldn’t roll this out to production since our network admin didn’t like the thought of modifying the main DHCP table for this. Oh well, not my call, but worked well when testing.

timjak
Well, I didn’t… I wrote a script to do it in Ubuntu, and will wait for partclone support in FOG… I don’t know where I put the script, but it was mainly backuping/restoring the GPT table (using gdisk, iirc), and then using the partclone hfs+ backup/restore utility for the partitions…
(Sorry, I don’t check the forums often enough… :D)
