      Hello everyone,

Has anyone had experience installing FOG on Solus Linux? I like the look of Solus but didn’t know if FOG could be ran from it.

      Thanks,
      Reuben

Well I guess I would have to ask, what is your logic to use Solus? Its not a mainstream OS or even a repackaged Ubuntu variant. It doesn’t use a common package manager either. Its also a fairly new OS with a lot of churn (not a bad thing, but is changing a lot). For a server OS that isn’t something you would really want.

Will FOG work with it? Probably not. Will FOG ever work with it (not speaking for the developers here), probably not. There are other mainstream Linux distributions the FOG works with today, there is no real value in supporting something new.

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG!

This is not something you should build you server on… “Looking good” is definitely not enough to be a proper server OS.

Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

Look at the dashboard in my signature, pick from one of those. I recommend either CentOS 7 or Debian 9, which the installer consistently has worked on for a long period of time.

@wayne-workman I am also looking at arch linux and have tried it. The only issue that I am not sure on how to resolve within Arch is how to set the wired nic for local traffic/hub traffic and use the wireless nic for internet. I have setup FOG in ubuntu and was able to do this within the network settings. Is this some that is easily done or needs scripting to do?

              Thanks,
              Reuben

@reub_rester It’s been many years that I’ve used Arch myself. So I can’t answer your question. And I guess we have very few people using it. So you might be better off asking this Arch specific question in forum where a lot of Arch users read and post.

I keep wondering why you want to use these difficult distributions. What’s wrong with Debian?

@wayne-workman Nothing is wrong with Debian. I use UbuntuStudio16.04 as my FOG server OS at my work. I was just asking the question to see if it would work for my home setup.

                    Thanks,
                    Reuben
