Hi,
I should probably learn how to do it myself :)
try this link: http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Building_a_Custom_Kernel
instead of 2.6 kernel sources grab the latest 3.x ones
also you don’t need to install a x server call the menu with make menuconfig instead of make xconfig.

Hi,
i can build the kernel this evening if i came home, i have a 3.9.2-4 kernel but haven’t included that C600 driver yet,
but that is no problem. i will upload it later today.
But i have to say it’s really easy to compile a kernel by yourself
Greetz X23
Hi,
i compiled my own kernel 3.9.2-4 and two of the machines work now instead that one tells me now hdd not found instead of kernel panic but this is only one missing driver.

Hi,
the subject is describing the hole case, i cannot break the image creation.
i tried every key on the keyboard also in combination with strg.
pause and resume shortcuts are working but abort is not possible.
I tried to abort on any computer i tried the fog functions, dell’s, lenovo’s, hp’s…
Any clue?

Hi,
let me say it in the name of a song of my favorite band: It’s hard to know!
I hope i can get wol to function properly in our corporate i see no other solution then wol, also lets say it doesn’t work then the weekend is over and the employee will start to work… we already have the specific pxe file for the client active and his machine will not boot into bs it will start the image creation… They will slap me
Is there a way to delete the active task if it couldn’t start after x minutes (start of image file creation on storage node)?

Hi,
i would bet that this problem has to do with sleep states of the computer:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693821.aspx
Wake On LAN in Configuration Manager 2007 supports waking up computers in sleep states S1 through S5. Sleep states describe the possible power states for a computer, as listed in the following table.
Sleep State Description
S0
The computer is on and fully functional.
S1
The computer appears to be off with the CPU stopped. RAM is refreshed, and the computer is running in a low power mode.
S2
The computer appears to be off with the CPU stopped. RAM is refreshed, and the computer is running in a lower power mode than S1.
S3 (Standby)
The computer appears to be off with no power to the CPU. RAM is in slow refresh.
S4 (Hibernate)
The computer appears to be off with no power to the hardware. System memory has been saved as a temporary file on the hard disk.
S5 (Off)
The computer is off with no power to the hardware, and the operating system has been shut down without saving system memory to disk.
Is it possible that the fog wol mechanism cannot wake from any sleep state?
Maybe it’s worth a test to try to wake up a computer with fog from any of this states to figure out!
Wikipedia.de (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_On_LAN) is referencing that a computer should only wake-up by acpi-specs at the following states: S3, S4, S5
Translation:
In the ACPI specification is laid down that WOL a computer from the S3 state (suspend-to-RAM - STR) - should wake up and S5 (soft-off), S4 (Suspend-to-Disk STD). Furthermore, some specific options in the BIOS and power management of the network card must be enabled WOL can function at all.
Hi,
thank you Daëavelwyn for your solution i will try this.
At the other end it’s a bit of sad that there are about 10 or more threads about the wol problem and there is still no real solution or an idea what is causing this.
I will report back if i had success.
Greetz X23
Well i can also life with the english version but there are people in my department who are working with computers who cannot understand english very well! lol

Hi,
check this: http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/silent-install-of-the-fog-service-client-given-hostname-or-ip.4323/
you can edit the complete config.ini and recompile the msi pakage.
(If you edit the ip address the msi will not set the two fog paths, so you need to hardcode them into the config.ini)
This is because setup searches for x.x.x.x entry if this is not existing it will not set the two paths.
Also you can add a a-record alias to your dns server (point hostname fogserver to your fog server ip address) then you need to change nothing because fogserver is the default hostname.

Hi,
The client (including the snapin dll) has not been recompiled yet. This will be done when 0.33 is released.

Excellent :)
Here we go…
i have recompiled the msi pakage for two ways,
faster snapinclient.dll & faster snapinclient.dll and no fog tray autostart entry.
See attachments.

I will compare the original file against yours with a comparision tool and post the accurate changes in form of search for xy append before or something so no confusion should happen

Hi,
thank you for the answer but there is no config or switches i can use while installing?
Ok then i repack the msi i don’t like to create alias a records.
You could repackage the MSI with the servername with something like qwerty.msi
I am sure i get you wrong here, renaming the msi pakage to the server name? or was your suggestion of qwerty.msi just an example name for my new msi ?!
Greetz X23
Hi,
you mean the function was switched off not removed, it’s still there in the webif and service client but without any function?!
Am i right if i say the host registration is depricated?
Will the leftover be removed in 0.33?
Can someone tell me why this function has been deactivated?

Hi,
is it enough to install the fog client service on a host to marry him with the server so i can find the client under computers?
Greetz X23
Hi,
iam thinking howto rollout the fog client, normally i like to use a silent install via PDQ Deplay or GPO but howto give the setup the right fog hostname or ip adress?
I found this in the wiki:
Quiet Installation
As of version 0.29 and higher, the FOG client now supports a quiet installation mode. This can help automate deployments, by allowing the command to be run without user interaction from batch files. To do this the setup.exe file must be run from the command line with the arguments fog-defaults=true /qb.
So the full command would be:

setup.exe fog-defaults=true /qb
No parameter for servername or which modules should be active or not?
I found this tutorial on the net that brings a solution with repacking the msi but what about simplicity?
