and take you up on that IP addr change tomorrow.

      This is how it’s done:
      https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Change_FOG_Server_IP_Address
There’s also a FOG utility here that does it too:

Would each and every version of iPXE have to be signed by Microsoft?

Yes, any version you want Secure Boot to accept must be signed. The idea we’ve kicked around before is only doing this every so often to minimize costs.

One question at the tail end of the install it did say that a backup of the database failed.

That’s not the end of the installation… inside of fogproject/bin there’s a new directory created in there after you’ve ran the installer once, it should be called ‘errors’ or something. But anyways, go into that directory and there will be an output file form the installer. Towards the end of the most recent one, you’ll find the error causing the database backup problem.

@lebrun78 You already have the API. What you need is documentation on how to use it. Here’s some:

I wanted to flick a switch, put on DHCP and image my VM

If you have VM infrastructure, just make another fog server in a VM for the purpose of imaging VMs.

If you have the knowledge and infrastructure to mirror linux repositories, you can mirror the ones your fog server needs onto an internal mirror, and configure the fog server to use the internal mirror. This is how offline installations works in the Linux world. There’s nothing wrong with the fog installer. It is the way it is by design.

The process of obtaining a signed build from Microsoft is tedious and very manual

That part bothers me. How did Microsoft come to have a monopoly on this? Isn’t there anyone else that can sign it? What root certs are installed into the bios besides Microsoft’s? Surely they are not the only ones?!?

how do I reinstall FOG server with DHCP on my private LAN w/o internet.

FOG more or less requires access to the internet for the installation process. You can hook it up to a network with internet access, run the installer, then take it back to your intranet. if an IP change is necessary when moving it back to the intranet, we can help you with that process.

Also, if the storage node management pass doesn’t match what’s inside /opt/fog/.fogsettings when the installer runs, the installer will fix it then too.

@guruprasad-g Am I correct in my understanding: You can capture and deploy fine, and the deployed image will boot once fine, and then will bluescreen on the 2nd boot? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

When I choose the not resizable option Fog wants to clone the entire disk, i do not have that much space on my Fog server.

All FOG image types except for RAW are compressed, and empty space compresses really well. I suggest you go ahead and try it. You can also shrink the partitions using windows beforehand also. Or, you can wait for help from @Sebastian-Roth or @Tom-Elliott

@sjensen Can you help us troubleshoot what’s going wrong with the resizable feature? We’ll ask you to follow some instructions and you’d screenshot/copypaste the output as we go along.

@sjensen Try to capture as non-resizable just to see if it works or not - so you’d do that in the image’s settings in Image Management.

@Sebastian-Roth This is the second time recently of people reporting this error unable to find size data

    • RE: Is FOG able to fit my needs?

@eadhor Wherever you keep your fogproject directory, go there, then go into bin and do a -ls -laht you should see a new directory in there for errors and such. In there, there will be an output file from the fog installer. We need the last 20 or so lines from that output file, that should tell us what’s going wrong.

    • RE: Custom PXE per machine ?

@develroo said in Custom PXE per machine ?:

it is a windows server sending out DHCP requests and there seems to be no way to allocate a different PXE per host.

You would use DHCP reservations. In your reservation, don’t specify an IP, just specify a boot file.

Your default boot file should be the file that works for most systems. Then, the reservations only need made for the deviations of the same architecture type (i.e. PXEClient:Arch:00000)

      Does that make sense?

Also, you might read thorough this to get a better understanding of the things at play in your problem: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=BIOS_and_UEFI_Co-Existence
