Hi there,

we are pretty happy with fog, capturing and deploying Windows clients since quite a while.
Today we tried to capture and deploy kubuntu (18.04.4 LTS) clients and we found out, that obviously the hostname is not set to the hostname, the respective host has in the fog-database.
This may be, because we forgot to install the FOG-Client on that host.

Trying to install it, we went to the Smartinstaller (recommended), but it just offer us the executable for Windows.

Any advice?

not a real problem, just a question: Is it intended, that directory listings in apache are not disabled (at least for the / directory)? When I connect to / on the fog-ip via http I can see the directories html/ and fog/

@george1421 Without more details I am not even sure this is still an issue in latest dev-branch. You know that we have changed the random password generator since 1.5.7. Might be fixed already but I can’t be sure without more details.

In my previous posting I was wrong. The password in the storage section differed completely from the correct password.

BTW: Was not able to upload the png to the forum here, so I used an external Server: Message was: Fehler: Beim auswerten der Serverantwort ist etwas schiefgegangen. which may translate into Error: Something went wrong while evaluating the server answer.

Yes, just in the storage node config. In the tftp-server part it was correctly mapped.

As far as I know, you cannot mount a nfs storage from a nas and reexport it, which is required by fog.

Worked through your instructions and in fact in the default storage part the fogproject password did not match.

Maybe useful for debugging:
Some parts of the password were the same, but 2 characters appeared to be Unicode characters. Unfortunately I did not take a screenshot to show what the password looked like.

Four letters of the correct password are: \^S;
I think, that in the incorrect password in the storage node, they were replaced by those unicode characters.

Please let me know if you understand, what I mean.

The capture-task worked in the end.

Thanx for your help.
I set up a new virtual host with ubuntu 18.04.03 LTS server with fog and dnsmasq and everything went fine for the installation part now.
The ubuntu 18.04.03 provides apparmor by default, so I assume, that apparmor was not the reason for the install-issues I had before.
Maybe the fact, that I have had mysql installed manually, tried installation of fog and removed mysql after noticing, that fog wants to install mariadb, gave us the troubles we had.

Hi,

after having installed 1.5.7 with dnsmasq on a fresh system I registered a host and tried to capture it.

Filesystem resize took a while but then the capture process started and next time I looked at the client it started to boot Windows. So I thought, everything is fine.

Looking in the fog-gui unter “Tasks” it shows, that the task is marked as “in progress”.
In “Images” the resprective image has a given “image size on client” of 17,91GB (which should be correct) and it says “Captured: invalid date”.

In /images I cannot see the subfolder for that image. I just see the temporary-image-files for that host.

Removed all mysql-common and mariabd* Packages.
Reran the installer. It took about 15 minutes to complete this line

Then it complained about an existing user “fogproject”. So I removed it and restarted the installer.

Now I am waiting for about 15 Minutes to complete this:

Does it usually take that long?

Should have thought about this earlier. There is something wrong with your database. Did you install MariaDB manually beforehand? Is there any other application running on this server using MariaDB?

Please run systemctl status mariadb.service and journalctl -xe. Post both outputs here.

I installed mysql manually beforehand, but since I realized, that fog comes with its own mariadb-installation, I removed the packages mysql-server and mysql-client.
I see, there is still mysql-common installed, but it seems, that mariadb needs this package, or?

I did not install any other applications on the server which use a database. At least I don’t know about any.

Yes it is. subnetmask is correct, as well.

This can only happen if you run the installer with command line parameters. While this is fine I need to ask you which parameters did you use. Post the exact command you used here.

As well, post more details on the Ubuntu version and FOG version you try to use.

Then I noticed that installation of mariadb did not succeed. Reason was obviously, because I installed mysql-server before, because I did not know, that fog now installs everything by itself.

So I did an apt remove mysql-server + apt remove mysql-client and started the fog-install-script with the -y commandline switch.

Installation of mariadb and client went well then.

Hi everyone,
I want to set up a new fog-Server in our new network environment, but since the dhcp-server is being administered by someone else and so I am not sure, how to configure fog. This is what we got:

10.203.128.1: dhcp (administered by someone else - not modifiable)
10.203.128.2: dns
10.203.128.9: fog + dnsmasq

Then I ran the install-script and configured the following:

Cannot replicate the issue at the moment either. But I did an upgrade from 1.5.2. to 1.5.4. in the mean time.
Maybe this fixed it.

Having the same thing. Running 1.5.4.
Was able to register hosts until this morning.

I have done the steps to update the images as Sebastian Roth described here: https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/12370/it-takes-longer-time-more-than-5-minutes-erasing-current-mbr-gpt-tables/16 (last post in this thread).
I think I successfully registered one more host AFTER having done so, but I am not sure.

Now I tried to register two other hosts and saw the line “no viable mac available” after having filled out the registration form.

At the start I see db_root: cannot open /etc/target, but I do not know, whether this has something to do with the fact, that registration does not work anymore
