try going to http://<server IP>/fog/service/hostname.php?mac=<mac address of computer> and tell me what you see
#!ok=GXN-14119 #AD=0 #ADDom= #ADOU= #ADUser=\ #ADPass=#!er: Join domain disabled on this host.

This is the response from the mac address of the machine i am imaging with my master image, not the master machine which i base the image off of… I figured that is the one you meant, let me know if i was wrong.

I have not added this image to the domain and even after de-activating the firewall on the base image the resulting machine still cannot change its hostname.

    • Quick Inventory Group

      Hi All,

It would be awesome if we could set a group for machines that are quick inventoried, that way we can set the AD settings for the group (a system already in place) and have them automatically join the domain. This would significantly speed up the turn around of setting up new machines in a corporate environment.

      Thank you for your time.
I don’t think this is currently possible, you can submit a feature request and we can see if we can work something out. However, in the past forum members have been successful at coming up with their own fix or add in that we have later incorporated. So please don’t be afraid to try!
Unfortunately with work at present i will not have the time to contribute. I will however make a feature request. Thank you for your assistance.

Indeed i am, that has not made a difference, which surprised me. The only way i could get it working was switching off the firewall entirely.

    • Quick Inventory to Domain?

      Hi All,

I have recently started using fog to image the computers we send out to our companies various sites for general use. We have just updated to windows 8 for these images and i am now using the latest fog trunk. We would very much like to automatically add these new machines to the domain.

I can accomplish this by, after inventory, ticking the option to add to domain for that specific host on the fog web ui. However i cannot seem to find anyway to make this option the default for machines inventoried and imaged with the quick inventory boot option.

EDIT: Also is it possible for the quick inventory to assign machines to a fog group?

EDIT2: I see that the fog groups have their own AD settings where i can set the machines of that group to be added to the domain after imaging. So if i could quick inventory to a specific group that would solve the problem it seems.

Is this currently possible at all? it would be so handy.
check your fog.log in the c:\ of the client, is it connecting to the server? are there any errors?
That log shows exactly what i would expect it to if the hostname changer had worked… it even says “Hostname is up to date”… yet the hostname is still the same as the base image’s.

    • RE: Windows 8 Stealth Mode
I would suggest a different firewall. I hate to be that guy but honestly you will need to either manage the Windows Firewall settings with a GPO or just use a centrally managed AV software.
You can kill Stealth Mode with a GPO? We where going to add these computers to the domain soon so that can be done. Just wanted to try get a base image working.

    • RE: Hostname CHanger not working since moving to 1.0.1

I have recently done a clean windows 8.1 install and image and the hostname changer is not doing anything. completely stock FOG (latest trunk as of this morning) and stock FOG client, etc. Any news on this issue?

EDIT: No active directory usage here either.

    • Windows 8 Stealth Mode

      Hello all,

We have recently switched over to windows 8 for my companies computers at our various sites however when i list all hosts in FOG it reports them as Connection Timed Out. I believe this is due to the genius Stealth Mode idea which cannot be disabled with a registry key in windows 8. If i disable the firewall it comes up fine, however if i have the firewall on and the appropriate rules set up then it just times out.

Also i can ping this machine from the FOG servers command line by its hostname perfectly fine, coupled with working when the firewall is disabled, the issue is not in hostname resolution.

Is there any way i can get this to work correctly?

      Hello all,

Short time lurker, first time poster.

I am getting this error as well in only one of my companies sites but not the others. The suggested fix does not however solve the issue.
