Is it Windows 7? Win 7 gets a little funky with the way it partitions the disk. There are a number of excellent posts and articles here about how to deploy Win 7 with Fog. Have you checked those out? We just deployed Win 7 to 125 lab computers with Fog and it went really well.

I was unaware of that. We have more imaging on tap. I will check that. Thanks!!

RE: New install of FOG on UBUNTU Server...
My limited understanding is that Fog likes to do all that on its own and will insure that the proper version is installed.

RE: "Job not found for MAC address" when booting to network card
I see this, too but not on a grand scale. Usually, right after I image a classroom, maybe 25% of the computers will do that for the next day or two then stop. I did check the active tasks and (of course) nothing is there. I even tried rebooting my fog server to kill any process that might be stuck (didn’t help). So, I am interested if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Restart Multicasting
Fog and multicasting is awesome. However, we do get units that drop the connection and leave a prompt asking for a path. Is it possible at that point to point it to where the image is and have it continue or should we just do what we do now which is to reboot the machine and start again with a new task? Thanks to all who reply,
Steve

RE: FOG Does not Restore the 100MB Partition for Windows 7 Image
My experience is similar to Bounty’s. I have had limited success using the Single / Resizeable but the multiple partition always works so I don’t waster my time fooling with the Single option.

RE: Image upload error
I do see both the 100 MB and the other partition. I selected Multiple partitions, not resizeable and I ran tests with the other options except RAW and those failed as well. I’m thinking that there is something odd about the way the tech built this one because I can’t use CloneZilla live on it either. I think I’ll reload the drive and try to upload it again. It’s easy enough to do. Thanks for posting.

Image upload error
I have a new Win7 build for a new deployment and even though this has worked before, I’m getting an error on the upload that says “Unable to move image” this error is followed by the temp name Fog gives it before it FTP’s it to it’s final resting spot. Oddly enough, I can upload our other Win 7 builds, just not this one. Might there be an issue with the Win 7 load? Thanks to all who reply.

RE: Importing CSV host file into FOG
What I meant to say was retain the column header but just don’t put in any data. Leaving a blank column in the proper spot may work as well, but that is what I had success with.

RE: Importing CSV host file into FOG
I used it to transfer all my hosts from my production server to a test rig and it works really well. My experience is to leave columns blank if you don’t have the data (IP address). Which version of Fog is installed? We have 0.30 which is older and Windows 7 is listed as a host OS option. If you are on a really old version, think about installing something newer so it better supports the newer desktop OS’

How do you set up a new storage group?
i tried to do so without help, but I don’t seem to be able to add images to it. Do I need to create a folder on the server within Images first? Any assistance is breatly appreciated.

RE: Why sysprep should be mandatory
I totally agree. Well put. The few extra minutes it takes to sysprep before you clone can eliminate many problems down the road.

RE: Any issues updating???
I did go from 0.30 to 0.32 without any intermediate steps. My fog runs on a VM so I did snapshot the disk prior to the upgrade, just in case.

RE: Where are you located ? Please Reply..
Neighbor!! Who do you work for and please share details of how you use Fog? Maybe we can share experiences, help each other, etc.

RE: Mobile fog server
I’m pretty new at this fog game, but based on what I’ve read having the Fog server change IP addresses every time you plug it into a different subnet is going to be a challenge. There are numerous posts here on what you need to do. I suggest keeping them close by as a reference. Also, DHCP modifications will be something else you’ll need to deal with. I suppose you could have a set of static IP addresses (one for each subnet) that you change the server to whenever you visit that subnet. Please report back how this works out.

RE: FTP Connection to storage server has failed
I don’t see the FTP error on mine, it just seems to get “stuck”. I do notice in the Active Tasks list that it never moves beyond “Queued” even when it’s running.

RE: FTP Connection to storage server has failed
From the outside looking in, it seems my PC never gets the command to shut down, so anything subsequent to that (i.e., placing the image file in the proper folder under the proper name, etc.) doesn’t seem to happen. Our production server is running 0.30. It runs great and we love it. I’m hoping to get 0.32 on line soon or 0.33 when it gets released.

RE: Blinking cursor on boot after image deploy.
So, you have 100 new laptops, all with OEM licensing? Like Altitude said, do a fresh install and when you sysprep it, I believe you can set it so it prompts for the license key.

RE: FTP Connection to storage server has failed
This is of interest to me as I have a similar issue with my Fog 0.32 on Ubuntu 10.4. The image upload appears to go OK, but it never seems to make it to the images folder. Also, when I upload, the task never leaves the queue. Do you see this behavior as well?
