RE: patch isc-dhcp server for mac startup disk
@Quazz
Just saw your response, I’m not really sure as macs are not my strong suit, I’m just short on time and trying to figure out the quickest way to get imaging working solely with Fog. I did try enabling the dhcp server that is built into the installfog.sh script and I no longer see fog as an option when holding ‘alt’, nor ‘N’ on startup and in system preferences > startup disk I do not see fog either. Please feel free to explain further as I’m not sure what you meant by this and the results were not what I expected. Thanks in Advance,
James

RE: patch isc-dhcp server for mac startup disk
Thanks for jumping in, yes, that is exactly what I was referring to, I will give this a shot. When you do have some time, can you please answer a few questions that I have.
I know people have this working, but does that mean they are capturing mac images using fog?
Or are people using some other method of creating the images and deploying with fog?
Any general guidance would be greatly appreciated, as I am short on time because the person tasked with this had 6 months to figure all this stuff out and did nothing and now it has fallen on me… LOL
Thanks in Advance,
James

I have everything working by using “stones”, but wanted to explore the other options

RE: patch isc-dhcp server for mac startup disk
George,
Thanks for all the good information!! Just realized my initial question was not very clear… I’m wondering if anyone can help me apply the isc-dhcp-server patch that allows the dhcp server to listen on random ports > 1024 in order to see the netboot server (FOG) in startup disk?

RE: patch isc-dhcp server for mac startup disk
Windows 2012 Server dhcp is disabled at the moment
Fog Version: Ubuntu 14.04 lts
isc-dhcp-server sits on: debian 8 /this is up and running alreadyI have the ability to spin up whatever in the lab, very flexible, but fog is and always has sat on Ubuntu server’s for us, but like I’ve said this is just my first attempt involving macs
Sorry for the delay, think I disabled my notifications

RE: patch isc-dhcp server for mac startup disk
This is all in a lab for the time being, but I will be using isc-dhcp-server in order to define the hardware classes as I did not think it possible with the existing Windows DHCP server. This is my first stab at it and I have the mac’s netbooting using isc and pointing to fog/ipxe.efi, but I wanted to give the startup disk option a shot. I will be using fog to deploy images created else where such as deploy studio or autodmg. If you require any more detail, please feel free to pm me or ask here, but I will now be available for the next few hours

patch isc-dhcp server for mac startup disk
This may be the wrong site, but I’m hoping someone can help me out with this as I’m new to linux. In the link https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=FOG_on_a_MAC it speaks of patching the isc-dhcp-server and I’m absolutely lost on how to patch this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,

RE: Storage Node (TFTP/iPXE) won't connect and client ipxe client errors
Ok, the storage node was added and now shown on the home page graph. I am still unfortunately receiving the ipxe boot errors along with the error when I browse the the storage node ipxe/boot.php service url. I have to step away for 10, but will be available after that

Storage Node (TFTP/iPXE) won't connect and client ipxe client errors
I’m having a few problems and my guess is that it stems from not being able to connect to the main fog server, but I would like some advice if possible.
Main FOG server v 1.3.0 Ubuntu 14.0.4 LTS
Storage Node v 1.3.0 Ubuntu 14.0.4 LTSWhen I first installed the storage node I saw the graph on the main page loaded for a short time and now I cannot get that back for the life of me. *note I did upgrade both nodes since then
After the install I added created a storage from the main server and have triple checked to ensure all creds were correct.
I have also tried booting a client which throws an input/output error Could not boot 1d0c6439 and Chainloading failed, but ‘s’ allows me to enter an iPXE shell. I’ve also tried manually browsing to http://fogserver-storagenode/fog/service/ipxe/boot.php and receive the following, which also leads me to believe this all comes down to connecting to the main fog server.
“A valid database connection could not be made”#!ipxe
set fog-ip
set fog-webroot
set boot-url http://${fog-ip}/${fog-webroot}The one thing I was unsure of and could not find an answer on was how the storage node and main server communicate.
Does the main fog server directly reach out to the storage node or does the storage node ONLY initiate and setup the tcp communication?
I currently have a Source NAT in place for the storage node to get to the main server, but not the other way around, could this be my problem?
As always any advice is more than welcome and thanks in advance.

RE: Multiple TFTP servers on SVN
Awesome, thank you. You guys have one of, if not the best, forum & response times I have ever dealt with. That said, I do have a final question before giving it a go.
My current setup consists of the following:
Main Site (Full Fog Install)
My office (for now)Remote Sites (Each Customer = Storage Node/s)
Customer 1
Customer 2
Customer 2 Site 2
Customer 2 Site 3
Customer 3
Customer 4What ports need to be open on either side for full communication between the Main Site and Storage node?
Another thing I’m trying to avoid is a bunch of tunnels/vpn connections, so I’m going to attempt this by using all nat’s and firewall rules and eventually I would like to move my main fog server into aws or some similar cloud service.
What you think?

RE: Multiple TFTP servers on SVN
Thanks for your response and sorry for my late response, I’ve been out that past few days.
My end goal is to have multiple sites (all different vlans/subnets), so I’m looking to add network booting at the remote sites, yes. We’ve been pretty successful deploying a single fog server at each location and managing individually, but I’m trying to get our office to be the Main site, where all images are replicated and safely backed up and all remotes sites each as a storage node and network bootable.
This is new for me, so please feel to ask any other questions and as always and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jimmy

RE: Multiple TFTP servers on SVN
Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to find the files that has that phrase and the installfog.sh does contain this twice and even seems to already contain this for the storage node install (see below), but after running through the install I’m not seeing the tftp services correctly after adding the dhcp options.

Multiple TFTP servers on SVN
Hey all,
Using ubuntu 14.0.4
Fog SVN latestI’ve tried to use the tutorial here https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Multiple_TFTP_servers#1.x.x but when I copy everything to /root/fogproject/ I don’t see an install.sh only installfog.sh and I can’t seem to find where to add the configureTFTPandPXE; and tftpd-hpa tftp-hpa .
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Jimmy

RE: FOGFTP: Login failed
Wayne, I apologize I was in a huge hurry and was kind of freaking out, but once I calmed down, I realized I should’ve looked before posting. Sorry bout that, again.

FOGFTP: Login failed
I apologize in advance if this has been answered before, but I’m kind of in a bind and thought just come straight to the experts. The fog user somehow lost permissions to the images directory and after creating an upload task I’m getting the attached error. Can anyone help me figure this out.
I haven’t made any changes other than an update a couple weeks ago.Version: 3603
Thanks in Advance

Moving Computers between different fog servers
Hey all,
I’ll try to make this short, as it’s not so much a problem as it is a thought I had… Basically, I have 2 fog servers, 1 at each site and it’s 1 domain. I’m on the newest fog revision and newest fog client service.
My question is, if a computer that is imaged at siteA gets moved over to siteB, what’s the recommended way for updating the client sevice to point to correct server?
I haven’t tested, but I’m guessing updating the registry wouldn’t solve because there is still the old cert/token, so would an uninstall/reinstall be required?
Thanks
