• RE: Upgrade to Trunk, Kernel Panic

@george1421 No other warning messages, just an immediate kernel panic with the included text (after watching the bzImage and init files download)

I am on Ubuntu 14 server.

Checked the location you provided (it’s the same location twice btw), I am familiar with the directory as it is where the kernels download. All necessary files are accounted for…

• Upgrade to Trunk, Kernel Panic

Hi all,

I upgraded from 1.2.0 to trunk, and now I’m getting the wonderful kernel panic message when I try to load a kernel (Full Host Registration & Inventory):

“kernel panic-not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on
unknown block(1,0)”

I’ve tried this on 1 physical machine and 1 virtual machine, both were 100% operating before the upgrade. I’ve tried other kernels, and older kernels from previous releases. I’ve also verified that (as far as I can tell) I have placed the correct 32 bit and 64 bit init and bzImage files in FOG settings. I’ve tried this with a Dell 745, Dell 760, and Lenovo T430.

Can anyone offer some insight into this issue? Thanks in advance for your help!

I am actually experiencing this same issue. I’m sure I have the IP and web root correct, but am getting the same error message “Unable To Install CA Certificate”.

Any suggestions would be very helpful!!!

• RE: FOG Snap-Ins For Download!

Yes, correct! Force of habit, I guess, FOG 0.32 didn’t play as nicely with some of the more complicated packages (SPSS, Adobe CC, ArcGIS) but the .sfx method always seemed to work. I occasionally need to include custom .XML files for setup configurations too…

• FOG Snap-Ins For Download!

FOG does a lot more than just imaging, especially with FOG client. I use the Snap-In feature to silently install and update software that gets updated so much it becomes a nuisance (cough FLASH cough).

Since snap-ins are a single executable file, and since FOG web GUI allows for a very simple creation of a new snap-in…

Here are some of the snap-ins I am using at my institution, available for download via SourceForge and direct upload to your FOG server.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/fog-snap-ins/

My packages are used in a Windows 7 and Windows 10 environment.

I hope this is helpful to some or all of you!

As always, a big thank you to Tom Elliott and the rest of the @Senior-Developers for your hard work on this!!

The file sizes look to be the same. I have many more images on the old server than I do on the new server, but the particular one I am having trouble with is “760AuditModeSummer15”

@Wayne-Workman

my .32 server is still running, but not well. Once I got the 1.2.0 server running properly, I experimented with a few things and broke it…

I can get the FOG GUI up, though. Worst case scenario, I’ll try to undo the damage on my .32 server and deploy, then upload to the new server… But I didn’t want to do that if I didn’t have to.

I am experiencing the same issue!

Just moved 2 images from my FOG 0.32 server to my 1.2.0 server, changed the image type to PartImage in the web GUI.

“gunzip: invalid magic”

I verified permissions on my images folder and subfolders. Ideas, anyone?

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the continued interest in the FOG VM. It is still available to share.

When I say in my original post that “If anyone is interested in the download link, please PM me and I will share”, it means that unless you PM me, I won’t see the request… Especially on a thread this old. Everyone who has PM’d me to date has received the download instructions. If you are still interested in downloading the VM, PM ME.

And please, for the sake of your sanity, READ everything. If you missed my instructions to PM, chances are that if FOG isn’t working for you, it’s probably telling you exactly why… Read your logs!!

That being said, I love to help with FOG issues (as much as I can, I’m not a developer or expert or anything). If you need help, reach out! This forum is also a gold mine for FOG help…

Take care, and stay safe everyone.

• RE: VirtualBox FOG Server Download

Hi Alexander,

Yes, the upload time is very slow… I looked into this issue and found that it is a problem with Oracle’s VirtualBox software, not FOG/MySQL/TFTP. When you set the latest FOG software up on a physical machine, upload speeds are normal.

Download speeds are always normal, regardless of a VM or a physical machine. I don’t think there’s anything you can really do about the upload speed… But to be fair, in an enterprise environment we will be doing a LOT more downloading to clients than we are uploading to the FOG server.

• RE: VirtualBox FOG Server Download

Tom, I’ll PM you the link.

By chain load, I mean I PXE Boot to a menu similar to FOG .32, and on that menu I have the option to go in to FOG 1.0.1 using the iPXE kernel, or boot any of the recovery tools I want to install. On the VM, the only tool I installed is Puppy LINUX. I don’t think I did anything innovative, just compiled the best bits of what other people worked out on this forum.

• VirtualBox FOG Server Download

Hello all,

I have created a VirtualBox VDI of Ubuntu 14 Server, with FOG already installed. This can be downloaded and run using Oracle’s free VirtualBox software. The setup uses DNSMasq, and a chain loaded PXE Boot menu with custom PXE Boot options (in this case, you can PXE Boot Puppy LINUX for data recovery). I also did a quick write up (with screenshots!) of how to go about changing the IP address of the server, and in the FOG software. It could be used as a production VM, or someone could dig around and see how everything is configured… It’s probably not perfect, but this is the setup that works great for my environment (and should work for most other environments, too).

If anyone is interested in the download link, please PM me and I will share. I hope this proves useful to someone out there!

THANK YOU to the FOG developers for your hard work on a great project!!!

• RE: Error when trying to register Host to fog 1.0.1

I don’t really know too much about the issue you’re experience, but based on the message you’re getting I would guess that something else on your network is responding to DHCP requests… What is your network configuration? Is FOG acting as a DHCP server? Are you using DNSMasq?
