    • Fog Server No Longer Working: Getting Database Schema Installer/Updater

I am running the latest version of Fog (1.2.0) in Kubuntu. Right now I am running it within Virtualbox to use this as a proof of concept and I will eventually build this out into a proper VM in prod. This AM when I came into the office after running an image upload overnight my FOG server would not longer allow a login. When I navigated to the site I got re-directed to the following URL:

      http://xxxxx/fog/commons/schemaupdater/index.php?redir=1

I then found out that after this issue occured my VM had a major issue and I couldn’t even get into the Konsole or past what appeared to be nearly a blank screen.

Realizing that I was SOL I wanted to start looking up way of restoring images. I have determined that the VDI where the images are stored is readable and I should be able to extract them. I wanted to know if anyone had any experience in restoring images from nothing more than files and folders in FOG.

My idea thus far is to re-crate a DB entry for the various images I lost with the same name as before and then simply copy the known working images into the Images folder in my new and working install of FOG.

      thoughts?

    • RE: Fog Crashed this morning... When i try to connect => Database Schema Installer / Updater

@Wayne-Workman Hint received. Just figured since I have an identical issue that I’d keep it all within a single thread.

@raymondub I realize that this topic is very old but in theory this SHOULD work…has anyone confirmed this as a viable solution to recovering from a server failure if you have a good copy of your images?

    • RE: Network Boot Problems/Computer won't communicate with Ubuntu/FOG

@Wayne-Workman That IS AWESOME! Save me and my team a few minutes in config…very cool.

For others reading and who are suing FOG for the first time. PXe boots up perfectly fine, DHCP will “Spin” and then you’re machine will likely not boot past a black screen perhaps with a flashing cursor. The steps from my previous post (copied inline here) fixed that issue for me:

Steps I have taken to correct:

      1. Boot into BIOS
      2. Change the security settings to remove Secure boot
      3. change boot type (away from UEFI to BOTH)
      4. Set Legacy to first on the boot options.

However as soon as 1.3.0 is out if the issue you had was like mine it likely wouldn’t have been an issue. Also the instructions at the end of the install if using FOG in a Windows DHCP server environment are critical. The Fog team should be given a lot of credit for including those. It made my first install of FOG incredibly fast.

    • RE: Error When Trying to Update Kernel

@Wayne-Workman I appreciate that. I did a search and couldn’t find Kernel Errors Fog. I will test the manual edit of the Settings and see if that corrects the error.

    • Error When Trying to Update Kernel

I am using a new install of FOG and have some newer laptops which require a more updated Kernel. After trying to update the Kernel I am receiving the following:

FOGFTP: Failed to put file. Remote Path: /var/www/html/fog/service/ipxe/bzImage, Local Path: /tmp/bzImage, Error: ftp_put() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given

This is a new one for me ANY ideas?

@Adam-Kohnert In case there are others who may have had this issue I have corrected a PC not booting into PXE a few times.

Steps I have taken to correct:

      1. Boot into BIOS
      2. Change the security settings to remove Secure boot
      3. change boot type (away from UEFI to BOTH)
      4. Set Legacy to first on the boot options.

This has corrected my issues every time

    • RE: tsc : Fast TSC Calibration failed

@Sebastian-Roth First - huge fan of FOG. Has been a big improvement for my organization and managing a multi-site office. I have tried the suggestion made below and selected different Kernels the one I selected as I believe it made the most sense:

      Kernel - 4.1.2 TomElliott Date : July 22, 2015 Version : 4.1.2 FOG Type: TomElliott Arch Type: (x86_64)

While the initial message went away the machine still did not register.

Please see the listing from the NIC cards PCI IDs:

      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_156F&SUBSYS_223317AA&REV_21
      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_156F&SUBSYS_223317AA
      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_156F&CC_020000
      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_156F&CC_0200

The client machine type is a Lenovo T460s Ultrabook. Both CPU & OS are 64- Bit.
