Upgrading FOG Server
Good Morning All,
We will be getting some new Windows 8 machines in next week and would like to create an image off of one of them and deploy it to others, my question is we are using 0.32 and Windows 8 is not an option for OS ID, how significant is this option or is it just for the inventory reporting?
If we need to image Windows 8 with a newer version, what is the appropriate version to handle the task. Also, what are the steps to upgrade the existing FOG server so that I will not lose any of the data?
We are running Ubuntu 12.04.
Thanks!

Error While trying to Deploy Image - Partition outside of disk
Good Afternoon All,
On our Fog Server (0.32) we have an image that was uploaded that we have used 6-7 times without issue. Now when I tried to deploy the image this morning, it is saying Hard Disk Error - Can’t have Partition Outside of Disk! I tried grabbing another pc (all of which are identical in hardware except HDD size, get to that in a minute) and it deployed perfectly fine, went back to the other pc and had same error again. The first pc with the error had a 160GB HDD in it, I switched it out with a brand new 250GB HDD still got the same error. The one I grabbed off the floor had a 320GB HDD in it and it is perfectly fine. Went back to the original pc and put a 500GB HDD in and now it is imaging fine? The entire FOG server is only 200GB so why does it require such a large disk? The Image settings are set on Multiple Partitions - Single Disk, is it trying to duplicate the partition sizes of the initial machine imaged? If so, is there a way I can change that so that a 160GB HDD will work instead of requiring at least a 320GB?
Please let me know if you need more information.
Thanks!

RE: TFTP Boot Issue
Okay, I installed your kernel and everything appears to be working normal again, it is now getting me to the registration and inventory screen. The one thing I noticed through all of this is that now the bzImage file is back to the config looking file instead of just numbers on a sheet, see below…

RE: TFTP Boot Issue
I am running Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit. I am using Fog 0.32. Yes it was functioning properly until yesterday when I had to shut it down and restarted it this morning. I have not made any changes, it is running on a virtual machine in VMware.

RE: TFTP Boot Issue
Okay, I only have 0.32 so I shouldn’t have either one of those, just that 1 file that’s in there?
Any idea where my issue is coming from?

TFTP Boot Issue
Good Morning All,
I tried searching the forum and couldn’t find anything exactly like my issue so I apologize if I missed it and I am double-posting.
I have a fog server and it has been running smoothly for about a month, I had to shut it down as a test for another thing in our environment. When I turned it back on this morning everything came up normal.
When I tried to do a full host inventory, it came back and gave me the below error messages (screenshots), after it sits at the screen for about a minute then the 2nd image happens and I have to hard boot.

In trying to research a fix, many people tried using different kernels, when I went to the folder with bzImage in it, I feel there is stuff missing, see below…

Everyone else I had looked at had some form of config file named bzImage and bzImage32.
Has anyone seen this before? Is there a way to resolve it?
Thanks,

Question about Images Location
God Morning All,
I had recently set up a fog server and was just playing around with it some to get everything figured out. I wanted to delete some of the images that I created as tests and when I did, I noticed that there is a folder in the images folder that is dev and it has similar file types as a normal image that I uploaded. Is it safe to delete this folder as well? I am trying to free up as much space as possible before I begin loading my images on there.
Thanks,

RE: Image Problems
I got it resolved, not sure exactly what I let the startup repair run and resolved the issue, now it boots fine. Thanks for your help.
I have another quick question unrelated and I haven’t searched the forums for an answer but is there a tutorial or how to on compressing the image file size, I only allowed for 200GB and with 2 images I am at 54GB used…

RE: Image Problems
It just goes to the starting Windows screen for about 2 seconds and then restarts and brings me back to the same screen.

RE: Image Problems
They are identical computers, set up exactly the same from top to bottom. I did notice that on the web management the bandwidth meter on the receiving end is really bouncing around from around 11 to 0 back to 11 back to 0 and I checked the eth0 drops and it is showing 45405, that seems extremely high, could that be causing the issue maybe a corrupted image?

Image Problems
Good Morning All,
I just set up a FOG server and was preparing to upload my first image. I followed the steps on FogWiki and the image uploaded fine (Image type I chose the multiple partitions, all disks), but when I deployed it to another machine (Same make, model, and specs) it gives me a bootup error saying Windows can’t be loaded due to a recent hardware change. I tried uploading another image (same pc as 1st but changed the image type to Single Partition) and I received the same error.
My question is what is causing the deployment error? I have tried researching it, but haven’t had much luck.
Also, is there a way to reset the image id (I am up to 4 already and already removed the first 3 faulty images), I would like to start back over to keep them all in order?
Please let me know if you guys need any more info.
Thanks,
Brent -
RE: Installation Errors
I tried just reinstalling Ubuntu and that got me past the MySQL issue, but now i get hung up on * Setting up and starting VSFTP Server…FAILED!
Then when I try to rerun the installation, that is where it gets hung up on the MySQL issue and it fails there.
Any ideas what can cause this or how I can get past it?

Installation Errors
Good Morning All,
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04. I am trying to install Fog (tried both 1.1.2 and 0.32) but both of them are getting hung up throughout the install process. They get to the Installing and starting MySQL and then it says failed and stops the installation. I am installing through VMware. What could be causing the issue?

New FOG Server Size Recommendations
Hello All,
I am getting ready to setup my first FOG server and I was wondering how large the hdd should be? What is the average size image for a Windows 7 Pro machine with basic software on it (outlook, adobe reader, etc.)? I am going to be running this one in a virtualbox environment.
Thanks!!
