    • Fog 1.5.6 for different hardware

      Tom,
I have Ubuntu 16.04 and Fog 1.5.6. It is working great. We have about 20 Dell all in one 7760 PC. I was able to register and re-image 2 PC for the testing purpose. Fog is working great. Can I deploy image I created with 7760 All in One PC to another Optiplex 9020 64 bits PC?

      Thank you,

    • RE: Unable to register Host

      Sebastian,
I already upgraded Ubuntu 16.04 and trying to update FOG from 1.3.0 to 1.5.6 as per WIKI Upgrading to trunk. I used SVN to upgrade from fog 32 to 1.30 via SVN but can’t remember how I did it?

Install GIT on Debian or Ubuntu
      sudo -i
      apt-get -y install git

      Getting FOG
Now that GIT is installed, you should be able to clone the FOG repository. Generally we recommend to put the repository inside of /root but if you’ve done this sort of thing before, put it wherever you want. Here’s how we clone FOG:

      sudo -i
      cd /root
      git clone https://github.com/FOGProject/fogproject.git
      cd fogproject

GIT is asking for username and password. So I did look in GIT manual. I then use git clone ssh:github.com/FOGProject/fogproject.git .

GIT display fogproject already exist, so I changed ‘fogproject’ to ‘fogproject156’ but it did not worked. I am lost. Can you help please?

      Thanks,

    • Unable to register Host

We have Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Fog 1.3.0 RC-37 SVN Revision: 6049. I am trying to setup Dell Optiplex 7760 all in One PC, windows 10 64 bits. I changed some BIOS setting in this PC and able to get PC to boot from NIC card. I received FOG menu and tried to register this HOST as “Perform Full Host Registration” from FOG menu. After few minutes, I got “Failed to get an IP via DHCP!” Tried on interfaces, Please check your network" message. After this message system rebooted. I am unable to register this host. I checked all BIOS menu and tried several different option but no luck. I will get same DHCP error. I checked all post since yesterday but unable to find answer. Any help is greatly appreciated,
      Thank you,

      All fog developers,
What a great jobs, you guys did! I am very happy with my FOG and teaching others on how to configure and use it. I have a more favor to ask. How do I add extra column on the Host Management Screen? or get username on this screen. I am using FOG 1.3.0 on Ubuntu 14.4. I need to add Username who logged in on the client machine.

      Tom & JJ,

Thank you for your help. I will make changes to batch script and add full path to networkdrive and modify my script as you both suggested. On last Friday before going home. I un-installed the FOG client on PC , re-installed it and my batch script was there. I waited for about 1/2 hours to see if this file gets deleted from C:\Program Files\FOG\temp folder but it was still there. I will follow your suggestions and let to you know.

      Tom,

Thank You very much for reply. I am also trying to figure out why snapin will install the batch script sometimes and other time nothing happens. I see a message that "Test installed " on taskbar but when I go to C:\Program Files\FOG\tmp, it is empty. If I run script manually, it run without any problem. I see copy file in C:\Temp directory.

      The batch script does this:0_1483714596462_fogforum.png

      Wayne,
Sorry I was away for for few days. Again thank you for the assistant. I created snap in exactly in the picture above. I also created a share folder and it is shared with Anonymous login with read only access.Whenever I deploy it, the client machine display “test installed, Installation has finished and now ready for use”. When I go to C:\program Files\FOG\tmp folder , there is nothing there. I have attached my snap in screen shot. I am using fog 1.3.0- RC37 on Ubuntu 14.04. I am not sure why sometime C:\program Files\FOG\tmp folder will display test file but another time it does not.

    • executing batch file from snapin

Is there anyway I can execute a batch from FOG snap argument.? I have batch file which copies 2 files from network drive to user’s local pc in FOG_PATH (c:\progra Files\FOG\tmp). The snapin works fine. I can verify that the fog snap creates test file in fog path. I have to manually double click this file in order for batch file to execute and copy 2 files. I am trying to avoid user double clicking and running this file. I tested the batch file and it works.
How can I run this batch file without double clicking it? Can I type any snapin run argument which will run this batch files? I have FOG 1.3.0 RC-37 on Ubuntu 14.04.

      Joe-Schmitt & Wayne

Thank you for the replay. I did not know that batch script file gets deleted. Just few more questions.
      (1) Do I have to select ‘Reset Encryption Data’ on host because once I reset encryption data, the snapin works quickly.
      (2) Can I combine ‘/i and /c’ for Snapin Run With Argument? I am using Normal Snapin.
      (3) What arguments should be for ‘Snapin Arguments’? I put /qn. Is this correct? I could not find these arguments value.

      Wayne & Joe,

I have shared my batch script with Anonymous & Everyone users with read only access. This is how I did it. I went Admin Tools–>Computer Management -->Share Folder and created new share and added Anonymous & Everyone with Read access for this batch file. Once I submit the snapin client computer displayed “Testsnap Installed and installation has finished and now is ready for use”. But I went to C:\Program Files\FOG\tmp folder no files listed. I searched it on C drive for that folder but nothing was found. I have attached screenshot for File sharing. I checked the FOG log. Snapin client there were no error. .0_1482341253383_File Sharing.png

I gave ‘anonymous’ logon’ access to read & write on this file. I was able to see this file in ‘C:\Program Files\FOG\tmp’ folder but not now. I am not sure if this permission is correct or not. I have attached screen shot of security tab.0_1482264013560_anonymous.png

      Joe & Tom,

Thank you for your reply. OK. I changed my snapin as you suggested but my script file did not show up under C:\Program file\FOG\tmp folder. I re-image this dell790 and tried snapin again. This time script file was listed in C:\Program file\FOG\tmp folder. Then I realized I made some mistake in batch file and corrected batch file and tried to snapin again but this time script was not listed under C:\Program file\FOG\tmp. Active tasks had nothing in it. The client machine had a message “Installing copyuap/bat file” Do not shutdown this computer " I “reset Encryption Data” before snap, still I do not see the file. Snapin currently showing ‘Checked in’. I waited almost 15 minutes still no luck.
