i have resolved this issue. I am not sure but when i was looking into ubuntu it did not update the images correctly. I moved them again and this time it was working correctly

i used FTP software , filezilla , to see the files where not on the ubuntu server but the gui was saying it was there .

    • dev-branch upload images

I have a fog server that is on a desktop and works great. I been trying to get it to work from a VM that way I have less issues when i upgrade.

I have the fog server working the the VM and able to get to the pxe menu. When i go to deploy image it states unable to locate image store. I have no hosts on this machine at all. I am going to call this FOG VM.

The Fog Desktop i went in and copied the images from image folder and move them to FOG VM and uploaded the file that i exported from the GUI .

i can boot up to the pxe menu and it connects to the FOG VM pxe menu. When i deploy the image i get the error unable to locate image store. I did look at the other messages on screen and it is pointing to the correct folder and ip address of the FOG VM server.

I am not sure where to check next. If it gets the pxe menu then the FOG VM is working.

the only difference between FOG VM and fog desktop is

FOG VM - on dev branch version
fog desktop - on master branch

    • RE: VM Workstation with fog issues

well i finally solved the issue. I switched to the dev-branch version. Then i install fog again with same exact settings. It complained about not having an ip address. I run service isc-dhcp-server status and it showed it was working.

this time in the dev branch i browsed to the dhcp folder and found it created the dhcp server file this time from fog.

i set my vm to bridge and then booted my other computer and it worked.

if i want a VM to connect I have to change my VM to Nat and not bridged.

i finally found the issue but not sure how to fix it. I ran the setup again in the vm and finally go the error setting up and starting dhcp server - no router address found - no dns address found.

I am not sure how to fix that. i know the last install i did i never had to put in an ip address for the router since i used the built in

    • RE: VM Workstation with fog issues

@sebastian-roth it is a private network. I have a dummy switch that it goes through. I shut off my wireless card when i try to image. It is the same as my other fog server but it is on a pc.

i thought i would put it in a VM and then just shut off my wireless when i am ready to image .

Firewall is off. I double checked it to be sure.

i checked on the host …windows 10 and then in ubuntu. Firewall is off. I will be putting this on a stand alone computer with just a dummy switch.

    • VM Workstation with fog issues

I have the latest VM workstation 16 and i have loaded ubuntu 20 tls with fog server. The VM has a network card that is 192.168.1.40. I have it bridged to the network. I do have wireless also on to my network.

how do i take a client and boot and reach the fog server in the VM ?

i boot and it never gets to the dhcp server.

i can not ping the workstation from outside the VM. i am using the host computer where vm workstation is installed and can not ping the fog server - .40

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. This is the first time i have tried to run a fog server in a VM and try to image that way .

    • RE: drive not expanding fog 1.5.9

@scott-b yes it is . Windows 20h2 . I finally got it resolved by the moderator. I had to go into my image and delete the recovery drive. Then it acted correctly.

Just wanted to put that out there if someone else had the same issue

    • drive not expanding fog 1.5.9

i have hp probook 400 that it images fine but the hard drive does not expand. I am running uefi . This has worked fine on other computers. what information do you need from me ?

It just shows the other space as unallocated

i did have to update to newest kernal for me to image the computer because of the network driver.

i am not sure why i can not upload a 1.7 mb jpg. I tried as a picture and as a file.

      it just shows the

      healthy partition
      C drive boot partition
      recovery partition
and a forth one that is unallocated 178 gigs

the hard drive in the computer is

      wdc pc sn730 sdbpnty-256g-1006

      nvme drive

    • RE: fog upgrade issues

I am sorry it was existing fog server and i just ran the install script to update to newest version. Then something went horribly wrong. I am not sure what happen. I do not want to lose the settings. I tried to rerun install.sh and it had an issue with database password.

I can not get past that …it was having an issue originally backing up the database and it froze on that part for hours. I close out of terminal and started again.

    • RE: dell 5410 no network

@george1421 thank you. That worked. It is still imaging. I updated to 1.5.9 and it is imaging at 7 minutes again. I thought we did something last time to make it image faster. I am trying to find that thread.

this is an intel 10 gen and should be 3 minutes or so like before .

well darn. It said it imaged but when i boot the computer it does not boot to hard drive. I checked bios and it is set to ahci. Secure boot is off.

it tried to boot to nic card since it could not find the image .

    • dell 5410 no network

I can use a usb and network boot but get an error when i click on the image it gives an error .

no network interfaces found, your kernel is probably missing hte correct drivers. Check your network setup and try again. It at least hits the server and allows me to get to the images on the server and then fails.

What steps do i need to do ? I am running the latest version of fog 1.59

here is a picture of the error
      https://ibb.co/4Rscjt5

I have never changed the kernel before and not sure how to just check without changing everything or the proper way to change and other places I have to make adjustments.

    • RE: slow speed and timeout issues

@Sebastian-Roth yes. this is new in the upcoming models. I had to reach out to dell once i found it and let them know about it. They said the newer bios will have them. they had no clue that this would cause an issue.

      @Sebastian-Roth @george1421

good news. I had some time to play today and found in the bios if i go to advanced configuration. Then to ASPM. I had to disable that . This controls the handshake between the device and pci express hub to determin the best aspm mode supported by the device. Once that was disabled everything was fast again and i could use the new hard drive and onboard nic.

    • RE: slow speed and timeout issues

@Sebastian-Roth this happen on every model that we had on the 7070. They all had the same hard drive. If it switched it to the bigger nvme hard drive everything work as expected. I worked with george to try to track down more issues.

I am willing to test in anyway that you would want me too. I can be a guinea pig

if you want to see the videos that i took then i will be more than happy to share with you. I can take more if needed.

I am more than happy to make a donation.
