• RE: Ubuntu Server 12.10 FOG 0.32 Upload Image

I would also recommend trying a different Kernel if this occurs on all the machines of that type, With Optiplex 755’s i’ve been testing on, the machine will freeze on a screen of garbled lines with the stock kernel due to an addon ATI Radeon card the kernel did not support. Upon using a different kernel(kitchensink fixed my video but broke multicast in 2.6.x, kitchensink of 3.6 fixed both for me, as did a core of 3.6 with the correct option removed - I believe it was Direct Rendering Manager being removed fixed my video issue)

Search for a custom kernel on the forum, or download one from the fog UI, or create your own using:
http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Building_a_Custom_Kernel
as a guide, but i’d recommend downloading and compiling a different version of the kernel from kernel.org.

What image type are you using for the image? Raw? Multiple Partitions Single Disk?

• RE: Dell 3010 Not Compatible

Timmay did you try compiling a KitchenSink of the newest Linux kernel (3.6 branch), and see if it supports your NIC?

I do not have a 3010 to test on unfortunately.

Swap the wget line with a different kernel from kernel.org , such as one of these(the below link with show the 3.x kernel source code , listing the last updated kernel first):

• RE: Want a Challenge? Need help!

Your SAN looks to be configured for Server Message Block, SMB/CIFS is not the same as NFS. As far as i know FOG cannot use SMB/CIFS for it’s storage nodes.

You could mount the SAN on your FOG server, but this could decrease network performance, as the image would go from the SAN to the FOG server then to the Client PC.

Could your SAN be configured to use NFS?

• RE: Just a possability question: Shared DVD-ROM via PXE menu...

Perhaps it is possible via the use of iPXE and iSCSI?

http://lists.ipxe.org/pipermail/ipxe-devel/2011-March/000357.html

What size are the DVD’s, would they fit into the target machines RAM/Memory?
Are they Windows DVD’s? Linux DVD’s?

If windows then remaps on the tftp server are required, if linux then they can probably be configured to boot over NFS.

Try running this instead to restart dnsmasq.
sudo /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart
• RE: Dell Service Tag

I believe the part you need on your image is OMCI, which allows WMI access to Dell BIOS level functions.

• RE: Making custom kernel 3.2.4KS

For anybody else that runs into this thread.
Here is a kitchen sink of 3.6.3 made lazily by copying over kitchensink.config and compiling the bzImage.

This allowed for me to image 755’s via multicast without the snow/fuzziness issues, i hope it will help you too.

Edit: I tried it on 0.33B and the image no longer works for device access
