• RE: Is FOG still being actively developed?

Yes, FOG is still an active project. Version .33 is a major rewrite of the code, so it’s taking some time to complete.

However, I’m glad that you’ve found FOG. If you run into any problems, you can post it to the forum and someone will be able to help you.

    • RE: Switching to Gpxelinux

      wolf,

Did you run this command, ln -s /tftpboot/fog fogboot from the www/var folder? If you ran through the guide, steps 1-8, it will still boot through tftp until you run that command.

    • RE: E53 - Filename not found

Make sure that everything is lower case. Linux is case sensitive. So if you have it as PXELINUX.0 it will not work. I’ve never heard of dnsmasq, so i’ll look into that a bit.

    • RE: E53 - Filename not found

Normally the tftpd-hpa restart fixes this on Ubuntu. Are your machines receiving a DHCP address from a Linux or Windows DHCP server? If so, have you configured those server(s) to boot the pxelinux.0 from your FOG server IP address?

Are you trying to connect to the web UI by the hostname of the VM or the IP address?

    • RE: Dell 3010 Not Compatible

Does the the machine stop at this point? Every model of our Dell’s had that error message and never affected the imaging process. We run Dell Optiplex 745, 755, 760, 780, 790, 7010 and Latitudes E6400, E6410, E6420, and E6430’s. We run kernel 3.6.9 and have had no problems with imaging.

    • RE: Brand new to FOG (I inherited it)

Did you delete the images just from the FOG interface? If so, that’s just a pointer to the images. The images will be located in the \Images folder on your drive.

    • RE: What is the meaning of the Short FOG?

Originally it stood for Free Open(source) Ghost, but if my memory recalls, itwas later changed to just FOG, a free computer cloning solution due to copyright concerns with “Ghost” being in the name. So FOG is the actual name, not an acronym.

I can take a look and see what I can come up with. I have a Zentyal VM setup from when I was looking at UTM’s.

    • RE: Fog Deployment Issues to Blank Drives

It should, it should make a backup of the MBR and restore it as well, the MBR is what stores all of the partition information for the drive.

What hard drive mode is your laptop set to? If it’s set to RAID in the BIOS, it could be hanging on that.

    • RE: Noreg Image Uploading?

Yes there is, with limitations, and recommend against it.

You said that you use the noreg, which what you would need. However, the only thing you should need to change is is the img=down to img=up for each individual image. I don’t have the commands in front of me, but that should be all that’s needed.

HOWEVER, there is a fail-safe measure that’s removed when uploading the image. When you upload the image the normal way, it writes the image to a temporary file until it’s completed, then writes it to the original image. If you upload an image with noreg, it’ll directly overwrite the image and not worry about making a temporary file first. What you would need to be careful with is that if anyone tries to image a computer with the image you are uploading with this method, they will push down a corrupt image since it’s currently being pushed.

I’ve personally never tried it, but you should be able to set the image similar to pushing it to a machine, but instead of down, put it to up. Of course, you’ll probably need to create the image template first in the FOG web interface. If you skip this step, it might still work, it might just not show up as a selectable image.

Do you have a second TFTP server on your network? I’ve never seen an MTFTP before.

    • RE: Install FOG on Arch Linux

I really don’t think it’ll be that easy, but basically FOG is nothing more than a standard LAMP server with DHCP and Partimage. Unfortunately I don’t have instructions to get this working without the script.

    • RE: Future offline imaging

The short answer, maybe. FOG is currently built using Partimage. However, developers are looking to possibly move FOG over to Partclone. If Partclone is implemented, then you will be able to use Clonezilla easily to restore images since that’s what Clonezilla is built on.

Just a thought, in /var/www/fog/commons/config.php did you specify the correct PXE DNS address to point to your actual network DNS server?

    • RE: TFTP Problems

I take it that you are using Ubuntu to run FOG? Normally the E32 error, i’ve found is the TFTP service not running when people are using Ubuntu, so the restart command for it fixes it. But you said you’ve tried that already… so might have to dig in deeper.
