• RE: Images staying in DEV folder in IMAGES

(summary of resolution)

1. Edit the /etc/vsftpd.conf and append: seccomp_sandbox=NO and restart the service (sudo service vsftpd restart)
2. Adding password to storage node in the gui
3. Rebooting
4. Fixing schema table with “sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.5”
5. Retry upload tasks

----it now uploads and makes the appropriate folder in IMAGES as intended and not the “dev” folder; aka, it’s working again!!!----

THANKS!!!

• Images staying in DEV folder in IMAGES

Hi all ubuntu 14.01 64 SVN 2866…trying to upload a image and it completes perfect but the image stays in a numbered folder in the dev folder in the images folder. Have resinatlled fog, updated it, and it still wont work. Im loath to start all over again with fresh everything as taken lots of tweaking to get it right.

Have applied all the chown and 777 perms to the folder found in this forum. Still no cigar - what to do ? thanks guys

there is no error - uploads fine etc - only go to images and no image - but in the DEV folder it’s clearly sat there and not processed properly to a folder name in the /images. Thanks

• RE: Hanging after clearing NTFS flag after upload

Thanks uninstalled and re installed to latest trunk. Thanks for your time. Whats the best install method. There are many, some have a password for mysql and others say to ignore then edit files afterwards. Can you point me to a definitive guide. Also I have kept the images folder and re added my list in image managemnt gui. However for every image it just says “0.00 iB0.00 iBPartcloneNo Data” however if I quick image etc it will find it and image fine :). No bigie but be nice to bring that back too:_)

~edit
Oh man - just did a quick test to upload an image and it worked perfect. Then looking in images folder the image wasnt even there. Then on quick image to test it says “image store corrupt:unable to locate MBR”.
What to do :_/9? looking futher into this the images are sat in the DEV folder in images. Not sure why? Have run the chmod commands to set best perms as per the many posts here. Not sure what to do now? Thanks

This happens to me all the time I fix it with adding passwords to various files - restarting mysql - all sorts. Cherry picked fixes from all over the forum.

I am on buntu 14.04.01 64 latest SVN 2826. How can I stop it from happening. When it happened I was adding my images back in the GUI after reinstalling fog due to another problem. Really want a stable set up of this. Its too good to give up on 🙂 Thanks!!!

http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/imaging-stuck-on-upload-after-finished.10775/page-2

Hi
I am on SVN trunk 2082, kernel 17th dec 2014. Updated fine and now when I upload an new image; this happens. See shot. I have found same issue in thread above and I still can’t fix it. Also my schema/database keeps breaking. I log into the console and suddenly its saying its broken and after searching I have run this command {sudo dpkg-reconfigure mysql-server-5.5} to mend it. I keep having to do it. Do you think its messed up the database?

just uploading from virtual machine as always…thanks in advance!!

• RE: Internet in VM fog

Thanks guys - sorry missed info - ubuntu 14.04.01 and fog trunk 2815.

Desktop set up and working fine installed using one of the guides available. followed defaults (static IP 192.168.1.99) and just said no to DCHP as DDWRT to take care of that. So when I have a client machine at home I can boot off the lan, quick image, jobs a good 'un.
So I thought that when I am out and about doing visit’s, be a shame to leave all that imaging work and capability at home, so copied the machine (VM) to vbox install on my laptop. That way can still image using fog via ethernet to ethernet.

Of course for that I need to have the FOG DHCP working so re ran the installer and set up defaults static IP same as in eth0 etc BUT enabled DHCP so machines hanging off the back of the laptop will get IP and work etc. Thats the reason for that 🙂

So have tried this command to stop DHCP, yes, because different linux flavour the command was different. This one actually Stops the service (or says it has) where as others leave it in waiting status.

sudo /etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server stop

Then I created a new connection that uses DHCP instead of the static entry fog requires and made sure the connection was “bridged” between VBOX & my laptop ethernet while connected and also the wireless. I thought that should do the job but no cigar. Have released and renewed. Fiddled around tried NAT etc. I thought disabling DHCP would give me internet then enabling give me back fog.

The ip adress in the connection is concurrent (192.168.1.94) with the router giving the IP and not FOG (10.0.2.2 etc) Thanks

• Internet in VM fog

Hi
I have a laptop with the same FOGSVR VBOX as my desktop. Copied same machine etc. On the desktop FOG DHCP is not set up in FOG as I have a DDWRT router which takes care of that. Works great. However on the laptop I have to have DHCP enabled in the box because I image client machines ethernet to ethernet via a cross over cable. Master system on the desktop, replicated on the laptop for “portability”. Works great.

So. I need to copy /images from desktop to laptop /images. In the laptop I can interface fine with the fog GUI. But I cannot get the internet to work for love nor money. Have stopped the DHCP server, renewed IP address, switched VBOX adaptor settings, all sorts. My thinking is with the DHCP stopped the laptop is identical to the desktop due to cloning nature, so should get the internet etc which works fine for LAN / WAN.

Im sure I’m missing the obvious but need it pointing out. Thanks for any help.

• RE: Best Practice for Imaging & some problems
sounds to me like driver issue could be the culprit, specifically SATA/HDD Controller drivers but would need more info to determine that . especially if u can reimage ur reference machine and it works fine… how are you including the drivers in your VM? you adding them to vm or post image? using sysprep? also if your using win7/vista on standard build (i.e. 100MB part + system part) i would just use single disk resizeable as FOG can handle it fine and it’s much easier to expand disk in the post install script then (also get the added benefit of ur image being smaller as single disk automatically remove pagefile + hiberfil.sys)

Personally VM is much easier and cleaner than using physical, guess it’s personal preference really. both have pros and cons in their on ways.
Thanks for the reply. I run a driver pack solution post build that works a treat so don’t include any drivers. Might be an idea to try IDE instead of sata using the vista builds but then I suppose don’t see why 7 & 8 work fine. I gather you need to re upload to change to single resize from multiple no resize, or can you just change in the drop down, actually of course won’t work. Good to know single resize works for 7 , same for 8? Thanks

• Best Practice for Imaging & some problems

HI
this is my second foray into using fog for my “quick imaging” solution for my computer repair work. New 1.2.0 updates seem really good and like the new quick image feature as last time I had to use a hacked kernel for that, so keep up the good work!!
After some effort’s and teething issues I seem to be pretty much okay on SVN 2815 & latest official kernel 9th Dec 2014 (round about).

I’ve been using multiple parts for the 7 images but am running into issues with Single Resize when using vista.
I am running FOG in a virtual machine (VBOX) and also using virtual boxes to prepare and sysprep the images. Nothing fancy just up to date images with some typical apps installed and an xml syprep file to re arm the licencing to 30 days as I want it as vanilla as possible really.

So on my test desktop which has a SSD in it. Everything been great however testing the Vista restoring I just get a blinking cursor. Have googled around a bit and not found much but here is what I have tried. Using a different machine with a spinning HDD, and same result. I have reloaded the image into a virtual machine and that works with out a hicth. Have also tried different PXE boot from |HDD methods to no avail. Have check the images for curruption and tried repairing the mbr etc before imaging and no good. Not sure whats happening :_+(

Do you think I should use a physical machine for image prep instead of virtual machines. Just hoping for some tips really before I start wasting tons of time.

Could I use multiple parts and then have post install script to regrow / expand to fill the disk?

Many thanks

• Multicast speeds

hi
I have a virtual fog server sat on a desktop machine and want to be able to multicast at gigabit speeds for each machine? At the minute I have a couple of very basic gig 4 port switches and when 3 are fogging at once they take about an hour each…but on their own about 8 mins!! Is there a way to make all the machines fog at 8 mins per machine even using multicast? Do I need a special switch or something? tahnks

• Hiberfil and Page file....

Hi there

Just seen the above files coming though in my images and taking up loads of space!
What do people do make sure they DO NOT upload into the final sysprepped image,
also is there any peril to be gleamed from having these removed…

Regards in advance
