Hi Liam

      Thanks again…

I read your guide and i have a followup question …

I have WS2008r2 for DNS, but pfsense for DHCP and IPs on my main network PCs are static…

What will be the easy but effective solution ?
I answered that Question for you here ->
My suggestion is using DNSMasqhttp://fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Using_FOG_with_an_unmodifiable_DHCP_server/_Using_FOG_with_no_DHCP_server#DNSMASQ_settings_for_iPXE

It does not matter what ip address your machines have, when they enter TFTP they look for a dhcp server and DNSMasq will offer the correct information to the clients so they can boot.
You will want to use DNSMaasq to proxy boot your clients looking to TFTP, DNSMasq will help them to resovle your boot server and file name.

DNSMasq works as a proxy DHCP server, it doles out ip addresses to machines looking to TFTP boot. Some environments that don’t have a DHCP server, or an option to enter a next server or boot file name will use this service to acquire the correct boot information and resolve to your FOG server.

    • RE: Dnsmasq problem

I noticed the file you uploaded had two instances of the lstp.conf settings, is this on purpose?

The first main error I see is that you are using the pxelinux.0 boot file instead of the undionly.kpxe file that the newer versions of FOG are using. If you would like I can make suggestions and post a file that might work for you, just let me know.
What if my dhcp is served by pfsense?

And computers on my main network are on static ip?
Then you look on the wiki or you ask a question in the help section and you don’t hijack someone’s tutorial thread.

My suggestion is using DNSMasq http://fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Using_FOG_with_an_unmodifiable_DHCP_server/_Using_FOG_with_no_DHCP_server#DNSMASQ_settings_for_iPXE

If you have issues please post in the Fog forums section and do not muddle up this thread.

It does not matter what ip address your machines have, when they enter TFTP they look for a dhcp server and DNSMasq will offer the correct information to the clients so they can boot.

I like what you have done here, thank you for taking the time to make a write up. I think this should curb some of the issues that users are having with installing a FOG server for the first time, and you have touched most of the bases including image creation, very nicely done.

You could always try DNSMasq to proxy serve your bootfile and server, sometimes this can alleviate issues with finding the correct files.

But got it working now saw another thread mention similar but not the same and they were advised to restart the tftpd-hpa service once I did this it loaded correctly and started the upload job.
That’s where I was heading just wanted to make sure to get you the right command 😉

    • RE: Client shows uploading but server says no image

You can copy that folder f8c12770f94 to your /images/ folder, you will then want to rename the folder to OP3020-base. Now if you chmod 0777 the images folder your image should be available and reporting the correct size.

To complete this action issue the following commands under the root terminal in Debian:
sudo mv /images/dev/f8c12770f94 /images/OP3020-base
      sudo chmod -R 0777 /images
This will allow your image to be utilized.

I’m curious if using chown will allow you to image correctly. Debian is a bit more secure than is Ubuntu counterpart, we may need to tweak the permissions. I am also curious if after running the commands I listed above if it does not solve your issue, please try a test image upload and let me know if it gets stuck in the dev folder again!

    • RE: FOG PXE boot

Chad is on the right track I really seem to be slacking lately, normally I am the first one to recommend the DNSMasq, I have to use it here in my novell network because we use Netware 6.5 and it has a limited number of characters that can be supplied for the boot file name. DNSMasq allows me to circumvent the system and provide the correct boot file.

You can use this guide here http://fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Using_FOG_with_an_unmodifiable_DHCP_server/_Using_FOG_with_no_DHCP_server#DNSMASQ_settings_for_iPXE

It will aid you in setting up DNSMasq, and of course if you have problems just come back and let us know.

Look into building a custom kernel, you need to supply your drivers fort the card to work.

    • RE: FOG PXE boot

Look for updated Bios /Firmware for the machines. It would be helpful to know the nic cards in the trouble machines, the kernel actually houses the drivers that the machines use, so if the driver isn’t included, it obviously isn’t going to work.

Look for Bios Updates/Firmware updates for the machines and see if that has any affect.
Please clarify, when this says now supports multiboot re-sizable imaging, do you mean multi-partition resizable?

I am still on version .31 and have been hesitant to upgrade because I am the only tech in a 1,500 PC 3,000 user school and can’t risk the downtime.
No when it says Multiboot I means Multiple Operating Systems on the hard drive, such as Windows and Linux on one machine but being able to choose the OS to boot to at each reboot.

Andyroo is correct, another forum would be best to discuss your unattend file.

however, have some information in the mean time, this is how I handle my computer naming convention, I ofcourse have the fog Client installed, and I have elected to use the Host Name Change service. When I register the machine I register it as the name I want it to have when the process is complete.

    • RE: UEFI vs LEGACY BIOS - GPT vs MBR - SINGLE PARTITION (RESIZABLE) vs MULTIPLE PARTITION (NOTRESIZABLE)

Good point there Tom, Lately AVG has been causing some issues with the sysprep process, during an image restore and it renders the image useless, add AVG after the machines have been imaged.

    • RE: UEFI vs LEGACY BIOS - GPT vs MBR - SINGLE PARTITION (RESIZABLE) vs MULTIPLE PARTITION (NOTRESIZABLE)

Not really. If you want to use Virtual Box, the only thing you need to remember is to set your Network card up in Bridged mode.

Stick your windows disk in and let it install to the hard drive, when Windows reboots and asks you to set up a user press Shift+Ctrl+F3 and this will enter to audit mode, this is the beginning of sysprep. Each time the machine starts it will act as if it is the first time the installer has been ran and will look like the OOBE process. When it boots to the desktop the sysprep box will be present each time, you can close it or move it out of the way.

Now you want to include your driver inf files in a folder on the C driver under Drivers.

After saving all the driver files, open the Registry editor and In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version click on “DevicePath” and enter “C:\Drivers” (remember the entries must be separated by a semicolon).

Now continue to set up your image. You will need to set up an Unattend.xml file if you want your installation process to be automated. If you have questions about unattend.xml files, I recommend using one of the guides on the internet, or use the included windows AIK tool. (Automated Installation Kit)
