Madeyem:
That worked like a charm! Excellent find! I followed the instructions as posted and it worked. It’s uploading the image as I type. I just don’t understand how I can create an image on a HP Elitebook 8470/8570p and it uploads without issues. I do the same on the HP Pro 4300 and it gives me that error. Both machines were prepped the same way and started fresh from the Windows 7 Setup disc. Too weird. Glad to have it working now though. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
I hope it works for you. The Pro 4000 I have was formatted and partitioned using the Windows setup disc.
I’ll give that a try. Thanks. I’ve always created my images the same way which was from scratch off the Windows 7 disk. It’s during the start up when it gets partitioned and formatted, and that’s done by the Windows setup. I’ll give that a shot and let you know. Thanks again.
Firstly, I apologize in advance if I’ve asked this already. I don’t think I have, and I searched and couldn’t find any old posts. However, if I did, I apologize in advance for re-posting.
Now, onto the issue. I’m currently running Ubuntu 12.0.4 LT and fog 0.32. Everything used to work fine, but for some reason, and I think it might be a HP issue, but when I upload an image I’ve created off of a HP Pro 4300 desktop, the registration is fine, but when it goes to upload, it will halt and say no partitions were found. Then it reboots. The odd thing is that these models worked fine about 3 months ago. My vendor did state that new model SKUs came out and they were newer, but had the same insides. I’m leaning toward a HP issue, but I wasn’t sure if anyone else had this issue. Anyone?
I too am having issues with HP desktop machines. At my job we are using HP Pro 4300, which are about to go end of life. I’ve uploaded images before on these models, however, my vendor told me they changed their SKU and it’s a newer ‘version’. Ever since then, I can’t upload an image. I can register it in Fog, but when I try to push the image up to the server I get the error that there are no partitions found. Then it reboots. We’re about to update our stock with the HP ProDesk 600 models too.
Very odd issue.
Using 0.32
It ‘spaces’ out when trying to send to inventory when performing a full inventory.
'Spaces Out" meaning that it will not continue and will just produce blank lines so the test scroll slowly on the screen.
Ran the compatibility and I get a Network fail/Disk pass
I’m guessing there is a network BIOS setting I’m missing…
Any suggestions?
What does the BSOD say?
It flashes too quick for me to read what it says.
Interesting issue.
I have uploaded imaged of Dell models, mostly the e series and optiplex series without problem. I’ve run across an issue that I can’t seem to shake off and it’s bugging me something fierce.
I have a Dell D630 laptop that I’ve bumped the RAM to 4GB and installed Windows 7. This is mostly going to be used as a loaner type of laptop and not for everyday use.
I’ve finished the image, and sysprep’d it. I upload it using the normal method that I normally would use.
The two other laptops (same model, same specs) can download the image from FOG, but when I boot, I get a BSOD when it starts to load Windows.
I’ve never had this problem with any other model PC. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
I’m not sure what partitions are present in your setup, but you might try changing the image type to Multiple Partitions - Single Disk.
Not sure what happened, but it blew out the partition on the terminal. Rebuild time. Oh well. Thanks for the tip and I will try that next time it’s ready to be pushed up.
I’ve searched, but haven’t really seen any definite answer on this.
I have a WYSE terminal using Windows 7 embedded. I want to make an image and push it to the FOG server. Then when needed, I can hook it up, deploy it and re-image. I’ve been able to register the thin client, and it’s going through the motions of the upload, however, it’s stuck on the ‘resizing the partitions’ part.
Any ideas?
Thx
Check the /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/ directory on the FOG server for the file 01-<MAC ADDRESS>. Delete it.
Bazinga! That did it. Thanks for the help!
Weird issue.
I have a desktop that I want to push the image to the FOG server. I’ve set it up on FOG and tried to push the image, but when I originally tried, I didn’t have the ATA set in the BIOS. It was set to ACHP/RAID. It never upped the image to the server. Now, since then, I’ve removed the host from FOG, and reloaded everything on the desktop. When I PXE boot, it skips the menu all together. Then it seemed to up the image to the server. Even after doing that, the host is not in FOG at all, and the PXE boot menu will not show. I have since swapped machines, and that one worked perfectly. I have a feeling that there is something in FOG that is forcing that upload, like a MAC address somewhere. I’ve checked the tasks and there is nothing pending. Any clues?
Thanks
This might seem silly, but is the dhcp-server service running? On my setup, which is similar to yours, I can always get to the dashboard as long as the ethernet card has some type of connection. But, if I boot Ubuntu 11.04 without the card having a connection, the dhcp-server doesn’t start and I have to start it manually.
For 11.04 it’s “sudo service isc-dhcp-server start”
You can substitute “status” for “start” if you want to see what it’s doing.
Yeah… About that… Walking away slowly…whistling
LOL
That was the issue. I didn’t realize that the dhcp3 service was not on. But the good news is that during this process, I have learned new commands that I didn’t know before. That’s always a plus…
Thanks you all for the help on this. It’s working fine now.
As far as I know, FOG is acting as a DHCP server… I don’t have anything else connected to the switch other than the laptop that I’m trying to PXE boot. when it faisl it does say that it cannot find a DHCP server to connect to. I’ll double check on the DHCP portion of FOG.
Make sure the static address is the same as the DHCP address you originally set it up with. Chances are the IP addresses are different and therefore PXE isn’t broadcasting on the proper IP.
Double checked it and it is.
What’s even stranger, is that now I can’t replicate the router connection to get it back to the condition it was.
I can get to the dashboard all day long… But the other equipment won’t connect at all…
Hey everyone.
I’m trying to use FOG with a gigabit switch, not connected to an internal or an external network. I had it running for a bit before I moved the setup to it’s new location, however I was using a router. Before I moved the setup, I did test the connection with another switch and it worked. Again, when I tested it, the switch was not connected to any network connection, just the two PCs (FOG server and laptop).
Eth0 was set for DHCP when it was set with the router. Now that it’s with a switch, I’ve tried to manually set eth0 and the dashboard does come up, however PXE boot won’t connect from any device.
I’m kinda confused and stuck on this. Any help would be helpful.
Thanks
