• RE: Windows 7 Deployment FOG- SAD2 Driver tool
Were you able to figure this one out, Kendall? I am experiencing the same “Unable to extract” error.
It was this line that was causing the Unable to extract error message:
Start /wait /separate /high “” “%cur%\bin\un7zip.exe” “%cur%\bin\dpinst32.7z” %SystemDrive%\D
The more recent versions of SAD2 have this file renamed to dpinst.7z, and located in C:\Drivers\SAD2\bin\32
I have gotten my image to deploy to a virtual machine. When the DP_Install tool begins extracting, it stops and prompts me with a message box No files to Extract. I click ok and it begins extracting fine.
Were you able to figure this one out, Kendall? I am experiencing the same “Unable to extract” error.

Will the more ATI drivers be rolled into the Kitchen Sink 3.4.x? I am currently using this kernel for any workstation that has an ATI card, otherwise I get the snow screen.
OK. I figured out how to update the server. I am running v0.32

Still trying to figure out how to get the image off one HP 8200 and onto others.
What part of the process are you having trouble with? I’ve recently deployed ~100 8200 SFF and Ultra Thins without a problem.

Perhaps this could be achieved using Snap-ins. What software licenses are you speaking of?
…It probably isn’t much more work, it just seems like it. I guess I can just take a laptop with me and use that to have FOG open the whole time. Thanks for the reply.
Just curious, but what are the naming conventions your going from/to?

    • RE: How-to: Create a universal windows XP image using mysysprep.exe and VM Ware

We had to create a separate IDE image for some older devices that do not support AHCI. Otherwise we’d have to set BIOS SATA emulation to IDE on the majority of the machines.

    • RE: FOG is uploading the entire disk, not just used space
I’m running into the same thing with my Windows 7 image. I’m imaging a 250GB HDD that only has 37Gb used space. It’s trying to upload 190 GB.

I’m using multiple partition single disk non resizable.

Single Partition doesn’t work, everytime I tried imaging a machine it tells me operating system not found
Is FogPrep being run just before capturing the image?
I noticed it was uploading the entire size of the disk of 250GIG + the 7GIG restore partition instead of just the used space.

      Thanks!
      N
I believe that is expected when using the Multiple Partition Image option. I’d try Single Partition, if you’re only looking to capture a single partition.

    • RE: Incremental Backups

Good to hear. Centralizing all/most of the user data is key to getting them back up and running when their systems fail. If you’re able to get that aspect of the situation under control, it will take a fraction of the time to get them back up and running…Even if you do end up with 10 different images for 10 machines.

    • RE: Incremental Backups

      Hello Charlie!

FOG is not designed to be used for incremental backups. I would approach the situate thusly: Having a standardized image (universal, or one for each model) that is deployed to your workstations, and all user data stored within a network location which is backed up.
I recently made my own Kernel as a proof of concept. Its based of the Linux 3.3 Kernel and it resolved a lot of problems for me. Its attached in my post here. Be sure to backup any of your existing Kernels in /tftpboot/fog/kernel/

Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for sharing, Eric. Works like a charm on all the problem Dells we had (760, 755, 740, GX620). Much appreciated 😄

    • RE: PXE Question

PXE boot requests would need to be directed towards your FOG server. If an imaging task is scheduled, and the client is set to PXE boot, it will then begin the scheduled task. If no task is scheduled, you can have the FOG menu displayed for x seconds before booting into the client OS.
