• RE: Latest Development FOG

I had to revert to an older SVN to become a bit more stable but it does work.
Using command " sudo svn up -r <rev # here > to regain some usability.
IE… sudo svn up -r 3318
3318 seemed to be the most stable but it appears to load pxe very slow but it did work as well as Domain join and rename features were operational in this revision.

Good luck (remember to run this from your trunk directory ((/opt/trunk)) and don’t forget to install it when your done pulling <rev # Whatever> from the /opt/trunk/bin directory…

Force Refresh

Someone just told you to “force reload” your browser to fix something. Depending on your operating system all you need to do is the following key combination:

Windows: ctrl + F5
Mac/Apple: Apple + R or command + R
Linux: F5

CTRL F5 is the cache clearing command to refresh the page, it pulls the entire page back down its a miracle worker when troubleshooting issues web based 😛

Sorry to the above poster, I did not see you had already commented but it’s worth the second post !!!

Gotta say the support on this project is awesome! you can’t beat this program. and Thanks to all the hard work from all Developers especially Tom. man you have worked miracles resolving the issues i was experiencing. Got both legacy and new clients working/resolved issues with error 2 and error 1326. New OS installed and re-install FOG with all the new tricks and works like a charm now. now i can get the information about the clients and able to rename/re-join systems in the proper OU’s as well … adding multiple ou containers to the image process is going to be invaluable.

I know exactly how you feel. only because i like to tinker do I experiment with my live system. I’m going to blow it out anyway and redo from a base of Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon x64. I like the interface more and i think its smoother. should play well based on Debian anyway.
future upgrade are better now too. direct upgrade path. so I’ll be tearing my ubuntu down and copying the files over to the new system.

I agree the SVN updates are nice when it fixes and or addresses a current issue but for people who use FOG in a live environment it can be hectic when things dont always go right. I experiment in my live environment but I do have backups and ability to revert to a stable svn revision. sometime newer is not always better. Im kind of in a unique position as i have the ability to play a little and Fog is not always a daily requirement so down time is understood and creates a little job security. 😛

Folks, I hate to say this but as I do, I am using the SVN builds on a live environment, Its a really bad thing to do unless your sure you have good backup’s and the ability to revert to an earlier version. as one thing is fixed for a revision something else may break. If you counting on a revision to fix all the problems you should probably wait for an official release. this is only for the development of the product. use in a live system can and often does result in some down time. to be expected.

Ok current update - After adding the extension=mcrypt.so to the php file and also running the php5 command tom provided i am able to see all options and make needed changes.
I then did the SVN update and that when I lost all the option screens it allowed me to log in but then no other screen except for main screen would show up. I rebooted the system still no joy. I did run the command --> Sudo svn up -r 3122
allowed to update, and then run the installer. this has brought me back top 3122 and all is functional again.

If you would like my log file for apache then let me know, I’ll post a little of the log in my next post for review.

ok updated to latest svn, 3123 lost all screens- im trying that command, rebooting and will update as it restarts.

If this still breaks the screens (can log in to fog but then all other screens dont display) I’ll back to svn 3122

Rebooted and no screens display other then the inital log on screen but i can click on log out and it will go back to initial log on screen.

• RE: Host Name Changing, FOG Client, and the FOG Web GUI

Any system in our enviroment is AD joined, and the only way anyone gets to change the name is using the Fog server to automate that process. specifically set to keep the name should someone attempt to change it out. our policies are based on Machine ID.
That being said the PXE boot option to register the name for the domain could be modified I would think to allow a name change at boot up which would be directly connected to the fog server and which will force the system to automatically update (IE re-registering the system to fog under new name. _I would think this might be a simple script although Im not a programmer.) JBOB you might be able to better identify this option- since to image you need credentials to image you could also add the option to change name after authenticating in the similar fashion./

as I had my own web pages/Forum pages I had a very similar installation of Mysql, php forums software on my domain based server. it was easy to do and configure with Xamp as Tom described. it takes a little time to configure but it was nice.

The really simple method however would be to use a desktop/laptop or server based system , install ubuntu on a 75G partition, add a 2 TB hd for storage and have at it. the entire process of getting this up and running in an already functional domain should take you about 30 min. then set DHCP settings for PXE boot and your ready to roll out your images. linux does not take up too much resources (the simplicity of it all) so it will run well on just about anything you give it.!

Good luck been using FOG for about 4 years love it every day.
