• Parallels XP built in VirtualBox

We have a mixed environment of Windows 7 and Macs, and we need to make use of an application that only runs in Windows XP. I built a Windows XP image using VirtualBox (and it has been sysprepped), and all of the Windows 7 users will be making use of that inside VirtualBox. When I deploy the image to a Parallels on a Mac, I run into problems that I know are related to the hardware being emulated. The first issue was a blue screen STOP 0x0000007B, which I resolved by following the steps in Microsoft KB 314082.

My second issue, which I have not found a resolution to yet, occurs part way through sysprep. This blue screen is DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELING_PENDING_OPERATIONS and references the file intelppm.sys. I tried various things to fix it, including adding some registry keys to disable the driver, and deleting the file entirely.

I’m at the point where I’m just going to steal somebody’s Mac for a few hours and build another XP image just for running within Parallels, but I’d really like to just keep it to one image.

Suggestions?

• RE: Automating Dual Monitor Setup

No issues per say, just have to manually go into the display properties and enable the second monitor. There are several hundred pcs configured the same way and I’m just hoping to automate the entire process. I’ve found some command line tools that would have to be run on the local machine that would do the trick, I could include in the image and then use pstools to remotely execute them.

• Automating Dual Monitor Setup

I am trying to come up with a way to automate the configuration of dual monitors for one of my images. Any ideas?

• RE: Stuck on Booting to local disk...

I’m assuming you either copied the kernel over from your old installation, or setup chain loading. Kerenels can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/Kernels/ and information on chain loading here: http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Boot_looping_and_Chainloading.

Also is it possible that the SATA controllers are configured differently? You might pop into the BIOS and check that out and confirm that they are all set the same as the laptop you built the image on.

• Running a single FOG server on multiple domains

The company I work for has us (the I.T. department) do I.T. support for another company in the same building that our parent company also owns. Eventually we will be joining the networks together and have a single network and a single domain (for simplicities sake) but in the meantime I will be using the second NIC on the FOG server to service the other network. Does anyone foresee any issues with this?

Press F8 right before the Windows splash screen comes up
Select Disable automatic restart on system failure
If you don’t have that on your screen, you may have missed hitting F8 at the right time. Keep trying!

• RE: Mass export host information

I’ve exported the hosts table from mysql, but the string for each host has a lot of information that isn’t accepted by the csv import. 😞

I suppose all the information would be helpful. The images are gone, so I’m going to have to rebuild them all, but that’s fine.

• Mass export host information

It’s entirely possible that this has been answered before, but I couldn’t find it. I am building a new FOG server, and I’d like to migrate the host information over from the old one. I know there’s a way to import them from a .csv file, but is there a way to export the list of hosts? They are both version 0.32.
