I have been running my FOG server, version 1.2.0, on Ubuntu 10.04 for some time. I would like to upgrade Ubuntu to a newer version. Can anyone offer suggestions and caveats regarding problems I will encounter? How much reconfiguration/reinstallation will be necessary?

    Thanks for your assistance.

There are some issues with services startup and with MySQL, but there are fixes for those things. I’d suggest going with Ubuntu 14 because of the long term support for it.

For the MySQL issue, the fix is described in here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshoot_MySQL

for the other services, there is a thread with lots of information here, along with a solution: https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/6940/high-cpu-fog-services-after-update-r5029-v6759

You may not even have an issue with the other services, but MySQL crashing on Ubuntu is more common, different people post about it at least once a week in the forums.

Also - Red Hat and RH variants like CentOS and Fedora have a little better track record when it comes to these things. Just throwing that out there. And I’ve recently completed new installation tutorials for CentOS and Fedora in the Wiki.

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG!

Thanks Wayne for taking time to reply.

I will review your suggestions. I’m not really committed to Ubuntu so perhaps changing to OS is worth a look.
