Black screen after deployment
-
Hi everyone,
After doing an upload of my computer on my fog server without any problem, I’ve tried a deployment on this same computer. When I reboot (not with PXE) nothing’s really happening. I have a black screen with a very small white cursor blinking in the bottom left corner of the screen.
I’ve disabled UEFI and I use Legacy Only. I’ve tried debug upload without succes… I’ve also tried single partition & multiple partition images. I had the same problem before when booting with PXE and selecting “Boot from Hard Disk” (same black screen) but I resolved this one with another post. I’ve seen that there’s a lot of people who have many problems with PCs from Lenovo.
Am I the only one in this case ? Does anyone know a solution ?
PC config : LENOVO 73 SFF, i54460S, 4G RAM, 500G, GMA.HD, DVD-RW, W7 PRO 64bits
Ubuntu version : 14.04
Fog version : 1.2.0 -
I think it’s an issue with your Exit to disk type - or config of your HDD.
Look in here:
Fog Configuration -> FOG Settings -> Look for the Exit to disk style or anything that says SAN Boot or Grub or Exit. Play with that setting.
Alternatively you can keep SAN Boot style by (probably) setting the device’s HDD operation mode to AHCI or Legacy.
Let us know how it goes.

@Wayne-Workman thanks very much for helping, I will try immediately !

I’ve tried both of your ideas but it didn’t work

has the task completed in the GUI?
-
@Tom-Elliott yes it has

What mode is your HDD operating in? What are the possible options?
What is FOG’s exit to disk type set as?

I’ve been able to recover a missed deployment by doing a fixboot and fixmbr with a Windows DVD. So the deployment is not a full failure but it’s not a real solution. If I have to do the same operations on 30 computers… that will be very funny !

@Wayne-Workman I’ve tried all combinations with UEFI / Legacy and Exit / Sanboot but I haven’t tried Grub

Those things are not the HDD operation mode type. Those are the Firmware operation mode and hdd exit type.
Somewhere in the firmware there are a set of options for HDD operation mode. The options should be something like Legacy, AHCI, RAID, RAID ON, ATAPI and possibly others.

@Wayne-Workman AHCI so.

Another question : do I have to use Sysprep or Fogprep before doing the upload ?

Nope. It’s optional. Some prefer sysprep, others prefer not. The current Fogprep is obsolete.
I don’t sysprep or fogprep for my images - I’m doing fine.
-
Thanks !
I’m gonna try without them -
I don’t know how but it worked last night. I’ve used :
- Multiple Partitions, Single Disk
- Fog Client
- Sysprep (audit mode)
- Fogprep
And this morning without Sysprem it didn’t work… I really understand nothing
-
What’s the mainfunction of FogClient ? Is it truly necessary to intall it before uploading ?
-
I don’t understand the question.
-
what is it for ?

I’ve find a solution on this post :
https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/3695/using-custom-mbr-for-lenovo-clientsI will try immediately, but I’d like to find a solution to not have to physically intervene on the machine I want to upload.

Hi, it’s a manufacturer installation or you have install the OS from scratch ? (format/create partition)
