PXE boot menu then black screen
-
rerunning the installer would likely fix the problem, yes.
-
I ran the re-install of fog. Now when I perform anything from the PXE boot menu I get a brief init.xz message then black screen still. I just re-did 2 more spare servers and a VM 2 with ubuntu 12.04 and one with ubuntu 14.04.2. Ran the fog installs from 3 different people which were all the same mostly. Still nothing.

what do you mean by this?
-
I mean I followed 3 different how to install fog tutorials from 3 different people who posted them on the web.
-
I have an update, my VM desktops seem to be working fine now with fog. They go through to full host registration. I am going to try and upload images now. Why does fog not work from physical desktops though?
-
The desktops and laptops all get to the pxe screen then get the init.xz ok and black blank screen nothing else. VM is fine now

how much time did you give the physical machines to boot?
-
I used a different desktop, and it takes a while to boot but it does if I wait longer. My old server was .32 fog and it was never this slow to load up. But hey its working somewhat now just slow. Thanks for the help
-
what model of computer are you testing with?
speed should be comparable with 0.32 on startup, and i think you’ll find that imaging tasks have sped up a bit -
everything we have are lenovo’s. We get to the PXE menu then it takes about a minute or 2 after for the black screen to go away into the fog prompt.
-
would it hurt to go ahead and go into the trunk versions using svn
-
I would say no. Everything is really stable in the trunk right now. That being said, back up anything critical if FOG is in production for you.
-
Really sounds like its timing out at one of the steps. I second the recommendation to go SVN.
-
I already am svn at 3395. I can get hosts to register once. Now when I go back into the pxe boot I get a bzimage error could not boot etc.
-
Seemed like from all the installs no one had this many problems getting pxe to boot. So when I register and schedule the host to image it gives me that bzimage error. But all the new computers will register fine but imaging won’t happen because of this error.
-
have you verified that the bzImage, bzImage32, init.xz, and init_32.xz files downloaded successfully?
-
how are you registering your hosts? from the pxe boot menu, or by entering the mac address into the web gui?
-
I have registered host from PXE and the GUI. I uploaded a fresh image into the server. It see’s that image and you can see it in the GUI and command line. I am getting a file issue it happens to quick when I image I get all the way through to where it picks a node.
I get this
*Using Hard disk: /dev/sda
*Erasing Current MBR/GPI Tables…Done
awk: fatal: cannot open file '/images/WIN732bbaseimage/d1.minimum.par
r reading (No such file or directory)
Done -
Then it just says task complete and reboots. Never images anything
-
are you getting bzimage errors, or does it go into the imaging task and fail out? those are entirely different things
