Just starting would like to know if it suits me?

G’day All
I run a small computer business (1 Tech = Me) and I want to set up a system that will do the following in my workshop.AD-Hoc Install a System
1. Load a system from a selection of images (xp,Vista, Win7)
2. Load Software (Office, Adobe, etc)
3. Load windows updatesAs I read it FOG should be able to do this with one arm tied behind it’s back. Though I’m not sure how easy it would be to put a computer on the table and attach an “image” and set of snap-ins to it.??
Repair work
[]Easily backup new computers when they arrive (Fall Back position)
[]Restore those backups (If I mess-up a computer when fixing it)
[]Extract files from the backup (To restore data after a computer system reload)
[]Mount an Image from a windows computer to run programs on the data (read the registry, etc)
These are the things I’m not sure of. It looks like it should be able to but I’d like to be sure before I set up everything.I think it’s a great program but I don’t want to spend a lot of time trying ot get it to do what I want IF it can’t do it. I’ve already been down that road with a few other “systems” I don’t want to mention.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Good day all,
Ive been running fog for about 6 months now and think the system is absolutly brilliant, One thing im having an issue with is adding more storage for the images folder, ive tried a set of instructions from an old post but i keep getting mount issues, really all im looking to do is expand the image folders, Any help would be great, also any news on 0.33 looking forward to testing the new system out?

Hi Darren
How do you use yours?
IE Is it a workshop situation with ad-hoc backup/rebuild?Thanks for the feedback

Good day Storm well the fog system ive got is on a dirty old box with a bit of hd space, which now is growing very small due to the amount of images i have on, ive had a little look at storage nodes but i hit issues so decided to just get the box up and working which it has been for around 4 months now and the speed it gets images done is immense, Ive got nothing but praise for FOG think its a fantastic system, i suppose my next task should be to implement a fog backup procedure to keep all important images and info safe guarded as the space is very low now lol

We use Fog here to deploy a variety of images running XP or Win 7 to either single computers or up to 20 at once. We love the intuitive interface, robust performance and the fact that it is so reliable. Good luck to you.

You will not be able to mount the image and restore individual files.

Dam! I thought I had read somewhere it could…sigh!
Well maybe my search will be fruitless.
FOG is the closest that I’ve seen so far though. Thanks!

FOG’s main job is to image computers quickly when doing mass deployments. It can do full system backups and restores for important computers if you have the storage space. It has a built-in memtest, and is extensible enough to allow you to PXE boot into other applications for disk checks and boot helpers. You have to be able to PXE boot though, very important as the majority of consumer grade desktops don’t PXE boot or don’t do it easily.
Clonezilla, Ghost, and others have boot CD’s and can backup/restore images from an external HD.

If the disk is already installed, partitioned, and formated, just follow the steps starting with renaming the existing /images folder.
