Workstation fails to boot when Fog Server is installed on a Virtual Machine

Hello,

I have been using Fog for a while. Initially the Fog Server was installed on Ubuntu 14.04. This was a physical server. In this configuration I had no issues. Everything worked as it should.

Eventually we became concerned with the physical server failing, as it was a older spare machine that we re-purposed for the Fog Server. Our solution was to virtualize the Fog Server.

What occurs is the Workstations will pxe boot, receive the menu for Fog, and then when booting from hard disk, a black screen will appear and nothing else. Also, uploading and downloading fails as well.

I have tried:

In Virtualbox with Windows 7 host:
Ubuntu 14.04, 12.04 and 10.04 with Fog 1.2.0
also I tried installing DNSMasq, as this was the solution for similar problems.
Disabled firewall on Windows host and in Ubuntu with no impact on the issue.

In VSphere with ESXI host:
Ubuntu 14.04 and 12.04

All of these various implementations have failed and present the exact same results, no workstations will boot to windows, freezing after the Fog Menu and no uploading and downloading fail.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried to change fog menu exiting style?

Go to Web GUI —> FOG Configuration ----> iPXE Boot Menu —> [FONT=Ubuntu][COLOR=#000000]Exit to Hard Drive Type[/COLOR][/FONT]

I set the Exit to Hard Drive Type value to GRUB style and this seems to have resolved the problem.

Interestingly, I checked our physical server settings and it had the same setting that was causing problems with the Virtual Server.
