    Hosts not communicating, but pinging from FOG? Apache2 error.log included!

      Ok, so I recently redid my Fog server. I am running:
      Version - 1.2.0
      Ubuntu - 12.04
      Elitedesk 8300

      I got everything transferred over and set up exactly as I had it before. I even imaged a machine and it worked great, PXE boot and all. Only problem I noticed was that it was supposed to join the computer to the domain and also change the hostname afterward. It never did. On the web UI it showed the little status bar graphic “Pinging 290 hosts Complete!” and on the hosts list they all have the red exclamation point saying “could not resolve hostname.”

      I looked up errors related to it on the forum and mostly found people having issues with their firewalls though I know it isn’t that since the firewall is off (we have our images set up that way since we have a District firewall and anti-virus). I tried pinging each computer from each other and was successful, however I could not ping the actual hostname, which when I looked at how you can set what DNS servers to search and all. Everything appears to be set properly and searching through the right dns servers.

      The only thing I can find that seems like it may be a clue is in the Apache2 error.log. Could anyone tell me if I am on the right track? And for extra point, decipher where I’m to go from here? Could really use this pretty soon 😄

      Here is what I am getting, and its from all sorts of different IP’s on our network, so I’m sure those are hosts that are trying to connect. I could swear all the permissions are right, but now I’m not sure.

        what do you see if you go to those pages in a browser?
        what are the permissions set to for those files?

          How do you access the pages? Do you access them as:

          [url]http://IP.OF.FOG.SERVER/fog[/url]

          or

          [url]http://IP.OF.FOG.SERVER[/url]

          This could be the issue. I believe the postfix for the client currently is hardcoded to look for fog/service/<filename>

          If you’re redirecting so you don’t have to type the /fog at the end of your IP this may be why you’re getting permission denied.

          Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

            I’m not best on what is needed permissions-wise but I thought I had set everything the way it was before.

            I do have a domain name for the server that has worked in the past. I am wondering if that is the root of my issue now. I can go to FOGSERVER.domain.edu and it brings me right to the main page. Dumb question: would that be network-side? I know I changed the bind-address in /etc/mysql/my.cnf to the IP of the server.

            And then I don’t know if this may affect it but per the previous guy’s instructions I edited /var/www/index.html to look like:

            But this was supposedly to access the web ui from the root IP? Anyway, I hope this is some ok info. Ill talk to the guy that originally edited DHCP to see if he knows about re-routing it. Thanks for all your help. I feel like I’m getting close!
