It’s better just do rebuild the whole thing yes. It doesn’t take long since you have done it before. I have rebuilt mine three times.

I have built my image. I got all updates to the OS and installed Microsoft Office, Adober Reader, FLash, Java and a few others similare programs. (Note I had an error in my unattend file, so I recreated it after installing everything and then copied it over to the proper location) I then captured it to FOG. I then deployed it back to the VM. When it boots, I am asked to accept the license terms of Win 7 Pro Service Pack 1. If I accept, I am then prompted to choose how to deploy updates. I choose recommended settings. It then proceeds to finalizing settings (which is still running after 30 minutes) Any ideas on what I have done wrong?

Are you sure you have copied the guide correctly? Have you run sysprep correctly? I’d suggest to strongly re read the instructions and try again with your xml file. Use snapshots, which will reduce your time. I know my guide is long and in some cases can be difficult to interpret due to language differences, but you will find that everyone does this differently so you may come across diff problems. I will try to upload my unattend xml tomorrow for you to try…

I have gotten my image to deploy to a virtual machine. When the DP_Install tool begins extracting, it stops and prompts me with a message box No files to Extract. I click ok and it begins extracting fine.
Also, how do I add drivers? I have an HP Elitebook 8560 with several devices that did not have drivers installed. I have the drivers downloaded from HP, but I am not sure how to inject them into the base image

re-read [B]STEP 8[/B] you need to download the driver packs and copy them to the necessary folder

Followed step 8 exactly. When the machine reboots, It has many unknown devices such as video card, NIc (both wired and wireless), Card reader, and others. I have since found those drivers. Is there a way to inject those drivers into the script in step 8?

what other drives are you missing i find that the driverpacks has them all for my setup. and then windows update will finish it off

I did not have the Network card driver for that machine, The wireless card, and several others. The network card is the most pressing, because obviously Windows can not access the internet without that.

Thanks for your attempts to help. When the driverpacks script runs, it issues a message box that says No Files to Extract. I click ok, it seems to begin extracting and run fine after that. Any idea why that might occur?

Hi,
I suspect you are doing something wrong, or you are using a diff script to the one I suggest.
Make sure you put your downloaded driver packs in the location below (for a 64 bit machine):

If it is a 32 bit windows, put them in x86 of NT6.
Download the version of DP install tool I specify in step 8, I think it’s version 111118 or something. But just replace the DP_Install_Tool.cmd with the one I uploaded previously: (I’m having problems uploading to the forums now, but it’s still attached to the bottom of the third post in this thread). You don’t have to do the whole process to test the tool. You can run the script manually to test it. Just run DP_Install_Tool.cmd manually on any computer that doesn’t have drivers. Make a virtual and use snapshots so you can try it multiple times. The idea is to get it working without any interferance or prompts. That’s why i removed all pauses from the script, there is no way my script will stop now.
I don’t believe you will have to worry about injecting more drivers into your image but if you do you will have to learn how by following the guides on Driverpacks.net

Alrighty. I’ve been beating my head against this for the last 4 days now. I’ve created my VM in VirtualBox, verified that its using IDE instead of SATA and have created and recreated my Win7 image 5 separate times now thinking that I’ve just messed something up. The image works flawlessly on my VM. It uploads just fine. It downloads to an Optiplex 390 just fine. But when I boot the machine, it simply states Missing Operating System.
I’ve created a Win7 image with just one partition. The 100MB partition, I get rid of when initially installing. The only things I’ve installed on the image itself are updates and Office 2010. That’s it. Any suggestions out there?

I suppose the two differences I see there are;

you are deleting the 100mb partition, I left it there are there is really no reason to delete it and
-
you are using virtual box instead of Vmware tools.
I doubt it is the second (vmware tools) that is the problem, more likely its the removal of the 100mb partition. Try leaving it there and checking if this works. Then try using vmware tools after that. It’s free for 30 days with vmware workstation 8.
Also make sure the dell optiplex has fully up to date bios. Can you try to deploy it to another PC? How about another vitual PC?

Alrighty. Went back and redid it again. This time, I image to the 390 and it goes through Sysprep. Now my problem is that it hangs on Setup is checking video performance. It does this on multiple machines and on my VM. Any suggestions?

And one last thing. Is there anyway under the sun for me to be able to use the Single Partition (Resizeable) option? We have a multitude of machines in our district. Having to constantly resize them once we’ve imaged them would be a colossal PITA.

What virtual software are you using to create it? Vmware or something else?

Fog actually still resizes the images in the process I have laid out. Basically, it only uploads as much data as their is on the original image, ie, if there is a 60gb hard drive, but my SOE only takes up 13gb, then that’s all it uploads. Then, when deploying to a physical machine, Fog will resize the partition to suite. So if it is a 250gb hard drive, fog will repartition the c drive to 250 from 13.

I’m using VirtualBox, latest version with the extension pack loaded so I can PXE boot. I couldn’t get the image to deploy at all when using the single partition. I tried the multiple partition on the last attempt and it actually deployed, its just stuck at the WinSAT checking your video settings part of the sysprep.

If you cant figure it out, then I would suggest using VMware workstation as I outline in the guide, because it has been proven working with Vmware. It’s got a free 30 day full featured trial, so give it a go. Single partition should work, or multiple, just make sure it’s IDE and not SCSI.

I seem to have got through everything fine except for the sysprep part. After I run sysprep and then restart the VM it will not PXE boot. Can anyone please help as I am due to deploy Windows 7 to nearly 500 clients next week.
