Lenovo L540 w/ Intel I217LM Ethernet Device - Won't load TFTP
-
even without your install settings, i might have what i need to help you now.
you “see tftp”
do you mean that it loads the ipxe kernel?
does it fail at configuring <mac address> or does it retrieve default.ipxe and then fail? -
I’m upping a video to VIMEO now. Once it processed I’ll upload it.

is fog your dhcp server, or do you have a separate dhcp server?
do you have your options 66 and 67 set, as per the installer instructions? -
Separate DHCP server. Options set. Works fine on my Dell Laptops.
-
do you have the Ethernet LAN option ROM set to legacy?
-
Building a 64bit bzImage based on 3.0.1 kernel. Hopefully this will help resolve this for you as I believe that NIC is trying to use the e1000e driver which I’m hearing has weird/mixed results.

The only option in BIOS is Enabled or Disabled and I’ve tried both.

Hi Tom,
Are you going to make the Kernel? That would be awesome.

It’s already made.

Alright Tom. Step in the right direction. However now I’m getting a TFTP timeout.

So I did a start/stop tftpd service on the FOG server and now im not getting the time out but its still doing what the video does above.

So I’ll go one farther. My T540p worked just fine yesterday, and now does exactly what your video does no matter what. I haven’t made any changes, so my thought was spanning-tree; however, I thought that only mucks with ipxe? This happens before that comes in to play!
Also, I’ve tried Tom’s June 17th unofficial kernel, and that isn’t helping either.
Updated: I tried a fresh T540p out of the box, and it works just fine! Unfortunately, that’s not the one I’ve been prepping an image on for the whole day so it doesn’t do me much good. My thought is that maybe the 2.13 BIOS update broke it somehow?
Updated Again: So I took another fresh one out of the box, PXE booted it, and that worked. I restarted, and the thing can’t PXE boot anymore it does the same thing in your video. Nothing has been done to this computer other than look at the FOG menu. Either I missed a switch when I turned on portfast, or this model Lenovo has a rockstar for a NIC.

So I believe I figured my issue out. I upgraded my FOG to 1.0.1 from .32 and I didn’t know about the PXE file name change. So I did that and it still didn’t work. I restarted the FOG server and still no success. Once I ran sudo restart tftpd-hpa it worked like a charm.

Hey Tom. I am using my Windows DHCP server services. Do I need to change the name of the iPXR file there too? Currently set to the default kpxe file
