Can't Image Dell Vostro 3350 laptop
-
Hi all,
Our school district just got a large order of Dell vostro 3350 laptops and i can’t seem to get them to work with fog.
When trying to register with fog i get Unknown bios version aborting.( still works after a few moments)
when trying to deploy an image error is kernel panic not syncing: attempted to kill init
I am running FOG on Ubuntu with most up to date version of FOG/Kernel
FOG server is working on our other computer models
I have tried:
Changing BIOS SATA from AHCI to ATA
Updating BIOS
downloading and tested diffrent Kernels:

Any ideas ?

the unsupported bios, abort error is a false alarm. It’s a low level driver error for acer laptops with a faulty fan controller. Ingore.
The kernel panic is important. Grab a screenshot/pic of the error and post it. Also, do you best to copy and paste or link to the spec sheet for this model to see if a driver change in the kernel might help.
-
When you say link to the spec sheet do you mean dells downloads and drivers support page for its service tag of the laptop?
I am not sure how to change a driver in the kernel.
Will get screenshot of error and post back. Thanks for the help.

Here is a screenshot of the error message.

Did you update the BIOS on the laptop? Our laptops (Latitudes) were very picky about the BIOS, if it was revisions 01 or 02, it was almost guaranteed to fail when trying to image.
-
Hi Kenvin,
Thanks for the reply.Sure did i also tried updating BIOS then running FOG (deploy or upload) on multiple of the vostros laptops. same error :C
we also have the latitude E5420 and E5430 FOG works just fine with them.
The Vostro laptops are for our student laptop carts.
Any more ideas?

Hi,
I have pretty much the same problem.
Dell Vostro 3360.
When trying to register (quick registration) I get “attempting to register host” that never ends.
Trying the debug I got to the prompt and doing ifconfig only shows local interface (127.0.0.1),
which is very weird since It did load the kernel and all.
Pinging anything results in “network is unreachable”.
Tried 3.69 and 3.88 kernels.
Any suggestions?thanks
-
ok, scratch that. just figured out it was a problem with kernel.
